That would not be a Mooney standard switch.

Looks like you may endure some humor to go with that.

Based on its location, one might assume it’s a...

  • Automatic Gear up landing alert sensor?
  • A security switch

I have no external switches on my aircraft.  They would be susceptible to water intrusion.

If it is connected to something important, I would really want to know what it is...

what is the extra hole pattern dimpled into the access panel for? The usual screw holes seem to be riveted and not so nicely painted over.

I suspect that Clarence has seen this thing before and security is in place to keep time theft from easily occurring....

I'm really curious.... why is there a piece of tape left there?

Best regards,

From the looks of the cutout it certainly isn't Mooney factory.

what happens when you turn it on?

Or is it already turned OFF?

Stealth Mode. Makes you invisible to radar, ground attacks, angry controllers and FAA big brother when cruising class Bravo when you just have to get there and don't have time to re-route.

That switch supplies power to the radio receiver.  You should turn it on prior to starting the engine, or your controller will be unable to command the aircraft control servos.
