MB65E Posted June 14, 2017 Report Posted June 14, 2017 Go get it! Don't sell it. With all those parts you have it should be pretty simple. -Matt Quote

Jerry Pressley Posted June 23, 2017 Author Report Posted June 23, 2017 Finally got 68Q home. Now the slow work starts. Don't know which is more tired. Trailer that was used so many years ago to move it or the plane. Would have preferred to remove the tail from the tailcone but bolts broke instead of sliding out. 10 Quote
RLCarter Posted June 23, 2017 Report Posted June 23, 2017 This is going to be awesome to follow....keep us up tp date when you can Quote
rbridges Posted June 23, 2017 Report Posted June 23, 2017 Great story. Glad to see you saving a plane. Like others have said, that plane has had an unbelievable run of bad luck with its previous owners. Need to sell it to someone like marauder who keeps his planes for centuries. Lol. 1 Quote
Wistarmo Posted June 24, 2017 Report Posted June 24, 2017 I have bought my airplane twice. Once in 1993, a brand new MSE. I flew it for four years and then sold it to buy a Cessna 310. I flew that for nine years before fuel and maintenance costs became excessive. I sold it and went without for a couple of years, then saw my Mooney back on the market. I picked it up in 2009 and upgraded it. Sure felt good to get her back. Here are the before and after pictures. The first two are from 1993, the last three are current. 7 Quote

Jerry Pressley Posted August 5, 2017 Author Report Posted August 5, 2017 slow progress. tail and tail cone separated and both have all tubes and rod ends cleaned up and loosened up. starting on belly next. balance of plane still on the trailer as it is easier to get access to the bottom. Won't strip or paint until all done then to Dominican Republic and Manual Mora who is the best in the business. 1 Quote

Jerry Pressley Posted August 25, 2017 Author Report Posted August 25, 2017 Can't believe that much rats nest could come from one hole, and almost to the end of the wing. Imagine how many ribs he had to go through and other obstacles in order to get that far out. Unbelievable that no damage from all that mess. Inside of wing really clean. Now to figure out how to "mist" the ACF50 into those areas. Too thick to use normal methods. Suggestions? Quote
Jerry Pressley Posted October 29, 2017 Author Report Posted October 29, 2017 Got the interior of the wings cleaned up and applied ACf50 and covers back on. New tires, tubes and brake discs and gear greased. next rusted rods and bell cranks. Ripped out the full Brittain panel mounted autopilot. tail cone interior finished. engine cylinders removed for inspection. crank, cam and all inside look new. 1200 since factory reman. Lots and Lots to go. Almost sorry i started because of lack of time to devote to it. 2 1 Quote
DMJones Posted October 30, 2017 Report Posted October 30, 2017 This is an awesome thread. It's a beautiful comparison to the "Abandoned Mooney" thread. I'm anxious to follow along and see how it goes... Quote
