donkaye Posted April 1, 2017 Report Posted April 1, 2017 I should mention one other incredible experience year after year, if you choose to either become a Lifetime Member of EAA or make a bequeath to EAA, and that is the First Wing Dinner each year, usually on Tuesday evening. It's free, outstanding and attended by nearly 1,000 people. Somehow it still has an intimate feel to it. The guest speaker each year has been beyond First Class. The year before last the guest speaker was Gene Kranz (Failure is Not an Option), who held everyone spellbound as he described the whole Apollo 13 mission. You were there with him as he went through all the decisions he made as that mission progressed to its famous and successful conclusion. 3 Quote
mooneygirl Posted April 1, 2017 Report Posted April 1, 2017 I am looking forward to my 9th or 10th OSH in a row. I will be flying Maggie in the Mooney Caravan and excited to be parked with my Mooney Clan. I also play in the EAA Concert band. What a hoot. We practice our music individually for a few months, then rehearse together [35 plus people] twice then have a concert. Sooo much fun. 3 Quote
bradp Posted April 1, 2017 Report Posted April 1, 2017 I really want to go ... alas we're moving in July again so it's not really in the cards. Maybe next year out daughter will be 4.5 and be able to camp. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Quote
Wildhorsesracing Posted April 3, 2017 Report Posted April 3, 2017 My wife and I towed our camper up last year for our 1st Oshkosh and loved every minute of it. Our 27 yo daughter (who has a PPSEL) heard us talk all about it and has demanded we fly up this year. Still working on logistics since there are three of us + gear this year in a short body Mooney C. But if you like vintage aircraft you need to fly up to Brodhead WI for the weekend before, the saturday night barbeque is worth the trip alone! Quote

Why don't you fly in in the Mooney Caravan? Formation qualification weekend is June 23-25 @ KLYH and the actual Caravan assembles 7/22 @ KMSN for the mass arrival 7/23. FWIW, Brodhead is 1 hour drive, 15(?) minute flight, from Madison airport. ( I might have some space to carry gear. My 17 year old grandson and I plan to camp so we have some stuff but we should have room in our plane departing NC...) 2 Quote
rbridges Posted April 3, 2017 Report Posted April 3, 2017 I've never been. I've been to SnF a few times, and they say Osh is much bigger than that. 1 Quote

Just a couple of hours after posting this we found out that our grandson had an accident while on spring break in FL with his dad. He's a HS track athlete and was on a training run. He's in a hospital in St. Petersburg FL fighting for his life with a fractured skull. Prayers coveted... 3 Quote

NotarPilot Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 If you get a chance to listen to Dick and/or Burt Rutan speak be sure you don't miss that. I find Burt and his work/accomplishments absolutely fascinating. 1 Quote
Guest Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 I've been to Oshkosh 32 times in the last 34 years and to Sun n Fun 18 years in a row. I've had fun every time. I think everyone should go at least once to experience it. Clarence Quote
LevelWing Posted April 9, 2017 Report Posted April 9, 2017 Unfortunately I won't be able to make it this year, either. I did the training with the Mooney Caravan a couple years ago but wasn't able to make it then, either. I'm hoping for next year, though I'll definitely need to get some more training in with the Mooney Caravan. Quote

Seems pretty straightforward to me. Ok I get you like to type out your thoughts and are very impressed with your self..I agree ,why bother posting your disinterest in Oshkosh ,your avatar is very appropriate Im thinking..be sure to also let us all know where you will be in July..ok Quote

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk There's probably no aircraft designer I have more respect and admiration for his accomplishments than Burt Rutan except for maybe Kelly Johnson. It's almost a tie because Rutan did what he did with much more limited resources. 1 Quote

Peevee just has different priorities. I won't be there this year, either, due simply to schedule conflicts. Maybe next year. Quote
