I used to have an iPad 2 that would strap to my leg but I hated being heads down all the time to use it. I stepped up to an iPad mini 4 a few months back with a yoke mount and I will never go back to any other method. It does not obstruct anything and the size of a mini is a great compromise between usability and clunky in a small cockpit.

Just Google RAM double socket arm and you'll probably find the choices. I think the standard arm that comes with a setup is 3", the longer one 6". I have one of each. Best price is probably through Amazon.

It's also the size of an approach plate :)

Another option...for some reason, I do not like the iPad on the yoke...too close, blocks my panel, so I put it on the center bar (and it doesn't affect my compass for those who are wondering).

This is such a great thread.  Very important and useful information.  

IMHO it is time that the mods create another category on the forum just for modifications and how to's.
