Since it's just my wife and I, I have the rear seats removed from my 84 J. I have the model where they come out easily and create a flat floor. This gives us lots of room for bags and gear and allows easy access to that gear from the front seats. But if I ever have a forced landing, the idea of all that stuff back there coming forward makes me nervous. I don't see any good way to restrain the cargo. Ideally I'd have 4 stout attaching points for a cargo net. Has anybody done anything like this?

In my 64 E model they had D rings and even some original canvas straps. My 67 F does not have anything.  I've often thought about this for the hast rack as well.

It would not be hard to add I would image an A&P could sign it off as a minor modification.

I'm betting newer models, perhaps even Js, have provision for tie downs. and one could probably buy a kit to retrofit. I'm guessing for not more than 1 AMU. (My comparison is the factory external power receptor kit which runs over 2 AMU plus installation.):P

I double-checked today. There is one single existing attach point, kind of in the middle of the cargo area. Pretty useless location. The carpet is glued down. I felt around, nothing else seems to be under the carpet. The rear seat belts do stay in place when the seats are removed, but but those attach points are not forward enough. And even with those, there is still nothing in the rear corners of the cargo area.

The D-rings in my floor are about 5-6" inside the outer edge, and 2-3" from the forward & backward edges of the baggage area. I never use them, just pile it in, pack it tight and occasionally stack it to the ceiling.  B)
