bonal Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Congrats Sam not surprising it was always very clear you had a passion for the Cirrus. Looks like a beautiful example. Wish you well in all your flying. Quote

Danb Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Interesting the top tax bracket is 39.6 for incremental income over $415,000. Nice plane and pups, much bigger than my babies, the two total 16 lbs., the big guy is almost 12 lbs, call him fat boy, glad u got your ride most likely a good choice good luck, fly safe and your allowed to hang with us guys. Samurai Husky Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks everyone! It was a hard decision that i kept going back and forth on. At one time i made a offer on a few J's but the sellers werent interested in my offer after i explained what needed to be done. @BradB I might be interested, but not right this second. I am still playing catch up with my bills; Once i get through tax season i will better know how poor i am. @bradp DH? sorry, in IFR training the only thing that means to me right now is Decision Height. @Danb Nope you are right, 39.6; Either way, the use tax offset made a large difference in my taxable amount. thinwing Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Ok...so what are specs? What year G3,known ice?etc....congrats looks like a beauty! Quote
thinwing Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Never mind ,I looked it up....has 10 year chute repack been done yet? Quote
thinwing Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Oh and I see Prior owner in VA...had a accident...ASN 141687 listed as landing short of FarmVille runway ,bounced on and off runway with substantial damage to both wings..... Quote
Samurai Husky Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 (edited) SR22-G3 TN w/ TKS 310hp (no AC i wanted the UL); On average i climb out at around 1000-1200fpm at 32gph; Then i do what they call the big pull; which is bring the rpms to 2500; then pull mixture to 14gph to lean it. From there i can leave it and either slow down more with throttle, or speed up with more mixture. at 14gph i see around 163TAS if im low; If its hot or I am higher then i will see 170's; I only took it up to 15500 once on o2; Im looking forward to my IFR XC where we will take it up to 18k. Having a turbo is nice; Up in Tahoe i had no problems taking off or climbing out. On hot days i can really feel the difference in the climb rate. Avidyne R9 w/ DFC100 autopilot; Dual redundant AHARS and of course waas. XM weather/traffic (im too cheap to pay for the radio); TAWS (which finally works now); and a bunch of other cool things. MT 4 Blade Composite Prop Chute repack needs to be done in Nov. $14k for this round, next time it will be 4k; the 10k is because they went to a new system and they have to run wires and update the pull handle etc etc. I replaced the brakes with upgraded dual caliper Beringer brakes; The old tires and brakes were shot and Cirrus had a kit special going on for Xmas which made it 30% off. Which also gave my another 8lbs of UL, bringing it up to 992. I just did the SynViz because it already came with it, but the privious owners were to lazy to send the units out to avidyne for the upgrade. I guess they completely overhaul the computers in the system with faster CPU's and everything. As stated before, the synviz is a novalty, but the upgraded needed to be done anyway since its required for the next release which will allow ADS-B. Im running into the problem where now i want to pimp my plane. IE; the landing light is horrible, so i want to get the new lopresti dual HID; while im at it might as well go with LEDs on the wing tips; (all my IFR lessons are at night); I want to put in a air/oil separator so i can run a full 8qts with out worrying about it blowing out the bottom I want to put in a electric start to replace one of the mags. I want to put in a ferro magnetic fuel sensor and digital totalizator (one of the floats is sticking and scared the hell out of me one day; i thought someone store a half of tank of gas out of one of the wings); But all in time There were 2 cases of damage. The first one was the guy staying night current and landed short. There was damage to the wings, but the plane was sent off and the wings were repaired. This was about 5 years ago. After that incident he sold the plane to part 135 operator and it was used as a air taxi. They put the R9 system in (which was $90k upgrade) and had it under a CAMP (continuous airworthy maintenance program). They had it for a while and sold it to someone else. He also did some damage. In the log books its noted as a 'short landing' but when i called the shop about it, they said it was a 'short landing inspection' which is different. I guess the guys hanger door fell off during a storm and came down on the prop, hence the new prop; The engine was sent to Continental for inspection and they did a top OH on it at the time. According my mechanics they are super impressed with how clean the engine is, even after 400+ hrs; They said everything is sealed proper, no leaks at all. There is no NTSB report on that incident (but it cost him 80k, he left the bill in the log books); He then sold it to the people i bought it from who own a FBO out in VA. He was using it as a toy from VA to Mertail beach FL. He had it for about a year and his partner said he had to get rid up it because it was his 3rd plane. He also has a King Air and a Barron. So I ended up with it. I had it inspected twice; Once by the shop that did the original repairs to the short landing and again by my shop here in the bay area. So while there was some damage, no one could find anything wrong with the plane and it was all fixed correctly. So far in owning it, I have put about 59hrs on it and its in for its second 50hr inspection/oil change now. So far i get nothing but comments from people on how nice it is and how well it flies. So I'm not to worried about the damage. It was all fiberglass an nothing with the wing spars. Outside of the brakes all i have needed to do is replace a O ring on the alternator and 2 oil changes. thinwing Posted February 10, 2017 Report Posted February 10, 2017 Thanks for pirep...looks like it will fulfill your mission...it's real common for folks to buy the same mfd as they trained in...Cessna to Cessna ,piper to piper etc...or at least it used to be that way...of course Mooney doesn't make a trainer so they have that disadvantage.. Congrats on getting your plane, she does look, nice i must admit. Out of interest how do you all keep the dogs in one place, my dog when we were kids would walk all over the car, never lie down etcetc? We are looking at Avidyne perhaps for AL, we spent a day with the avidyne salesman on tuesday and walked through everything it can do. Capable piece of kit. Not sure whether in soem areas he was talking rubbish, like oh it comes free with the ifr charts and sinviz. Etc. But thats for later. regsrding your towbar, PLEASE PLEASE make sure that is strapped down tight, you dont wamt to hit a bump, have it hit a pup and then. You have an emergency on your hands. I loved your line about the 44.% tax bracket, thats most of UK population and we still dont know where the money goes. Fly safe Kiddo, come to the Moooney summit in September, its about safety, and staying alive. Great summit. Andrew Thanks! Not sure about the free ifr charts either; it will probably come with synthviz though; The dogs basically did what you see, once the plane starts to move they just lay down; I had a friend with me that day in the passenger seat keeping a eye on things. When i went to AZ i left the back seats in (just in case we wanted to take the family for a joy ride) and had everything strapped in the back; With the back seats in it was more cramped, but they made it work; (i filled in the leg area's will pillows and blankets and other stuff so that gave them a little more room). Next time i will go with the back seats out; I bought a cover and so i normally put the towbar in the cover bag, then strap that in to the back of the plane. Not only does it secure it, but it also keeps the dogs from going completely to the back for CG reasons. I also move the passenger seat forward all the way and tilt the seat forward, which i can do because of the side stick. This prevents them from coming up front. I wish i took a picture at Xmas, it was amazing how much stuff i had. One of them just laid down and the other one just sat and looked out the window the whole time. That said, the mutt miffs were useless; They just shook them off after about 10 mins. i need something like a extra large foam ear plug or something else that they cant shake out as easily. Something like the foam plugs with the wire that attaches them, but with one wire that would go under the chin and one that would go around the back of the head that you can then sinch tight. 1 Quote

I'm sure that your spars won't corrode, your tanks won't leak, and your landing gear shock discs won't harden up. Not so fast. The fuel tanks on my Cirrus leaked and had to be resealed. And my flap relay went out - twice. And my starter adaptor had to be replaced. All with less than 500 hours total time on the airframe. Not a Cirrus fan. 1 Quote

My post was somewhat tongue and cheek. In my shop I've seen more leaky Mooney tanks than Cirrus tanks in fact how many specialists cater to that one Mooney issue alone? How many Mooneys have we seen recently with corrosion issues within the tank, one poster is going wing shopping. We're purchasing parts from Mooney for another Mooney with rotted steel tubing, which is also a common issue. No airframe or system is perfect. Clarence Quote

So the worries persist. How am I as a buyer supposed to know which day the car I'm looking at on the lot rolled down the assembly ljne? My car club toured the neably Hyundai plant, and each of the dozens of manual and semi-manual jobs took 48 seconds to perform. Every station had to finish by then to keep the line moving. Talk about a little pressure! Our Mooneys, though, are all handmade, which brings about its own pressures and troubles. Either way, they are both 1st world problems. Quote
Samurai Husky Posted February 11, 2017 Report Posted February 11, 2017 man people are making too much of that comment But to answer your question, they used to code it in the VIN. Overall it takes about 1-2 days to build a car. My friend a long time ago (early 2000's) bought a corvette something something... They sent him a invention to see his car 'born' and he went to the factory in Michigan and watched it being built. You dont get to see everything, but you see a good majority of the process. Planes on the other hand, take weeks and are much more hands on. Though they are just putting it together; Someone makes the motor, someone makes the avionics etc etc. So it would be hard to match all the pices together to ensure is was not a partial M/F plane Quote

Samurai Husky Posted February 11, 2017 Report Posted February 11, 2017 I could have sworn it was in Michigan, but you are right it was probably Kentucky..... Honestly, i wasn't really paying attention to him because at the time i wasnt doing so well financially and all he wanted to do was brag about his car. I just assumed it was Michigan.... Either way, he and his dad went down for the week and watched the car built. He has a picture of him with it rolling off the assembly line. Quote
