Hi everyone.  This has been in process a few weeks and I've already asked a few questions about it but the financing funding just went through and its officially mine now.  So I figured I'd say hello :)

67 M20F  Built december of 66.

Paint is not great, interior isnt horrible.  Panel will get me my IFR rating and thats about all I can ask for at the budget I was working with.

Ive been fixing a few squawks the prebuy inspection found while it sits over in Chino waiting for funding.  Replaces fuel and oil pressure lines, brake lines, new tire and tube, oversize front whell bushing, intake boot seal, panel mounts, decals and a few other things.

I just discoverd I dont have a full shot of the plane so I attached the best I have right now.  It badly needs a wash and wax.  I hit just a 2' surface of the wing with some wax and it shines up nicely.  DOesnt magically fix the chips and scratches though ;)

I'm sure Ill have plenty of questions about it!  Im going to be doing as much owner assisted things as my IA will let me get away with.

My first upgrade will be a cupholder!

Congrats on the new family member and welcome to the group! I have an F as well. Love the plane!

You have a great resource for ideas and problems here at MS !

A word of warning... don't give her a name or you will go broke!

Congratulations.  Good luck in the new rating.  It's so much easier to have a plane any time you want, especially when training.  The good thing is you'll be learning the old way.  Once you get everything down with ILS the RNAV stuff is a piece of cake.

Your profile says N9536M but your plane says N9636M...

Congrats. I've recently got my eyes on an F; may get one if I find a good one! I mainly fly Archers now and my mission is mostly 400 mile + cross countries with 3 other people. The extra cabin space makes an F possible for the cross countries esp if I find one with over 1050lbs useful load.

Question for you F owners: how likely is it to find one that can do an honest 145 knots? Also curious if an F is cheaper to maintain than a J? I guess it's very plane dependent, but what are thoughts in general?

I think 145 knots is reasonable for an F. They'rea little bit faster than my C at 140-145 knots.

Last weekend my G430W said my TAS was 146-148 knots! I'm chasing the Es if that's true.

at 7500 feet yesterday I was doing 155mph at 8.7gph.  not quite 145kt.  I was asked by the tower to reduce speed to 120kn as I was inbound to the ILS.  ground speed close to 200mph coming downhill after the cahon pass.  Then he made me take it to 100 knots as I was still coming in hotter than the southwest jets.  not the kind of thing you hear in the trainers!!

Welcome Turtle. I've got a friend I formate with who's got the fastest F I've seen (with PowerFlow also) and he stays with Es and Js...although not mine, as I also have a PowerFlow, but it's not a significant difference.

Get used to being asked to slow down when they're routing you into GA traffic in SoCal, it's kind of fun when you've been flying trainers. I jumped from a 150-horse Warrior so I shared your glee at those calls.

Owner-assisted is a great call. I wish I had done it on my bird sooner, it really expanded my knowledge. Jerry Manthey published a great owner maintenance book - I'm not sure he is still doing the seminars but that was a very worthwhile learning experience as well.

I have found some great time-saving technical tips here and also tried to benefit from collective experience of other Mooney owners. Like anything else, obviously, it's important to collect as much data as possible and not rely exclusively on one source.

Nope, reminds me of doing touch-n-go's at Riverside toward the beginning of my training when the tower told a helicopter to slow down so he didn't pass us as we were on final.

Congrats on your beautiful '66 F.  (That N Number "repair" will be the cheapest, but least satisfying" :)  Enjoy making her yours!  Have fun.

Congrats Turtle! I'm a fairly new "F" owner also. Best wishes. Now you need to change your handle, "Turtle" is just not appropriate for a Mooney flyer.

haha, im not good at picking screen names.  I was about to buy a G model so I went with turtle.  I think I should be turtle with flying goggles or something.

I grabbed it online from shutter stock... You may or may not get in trouble for using it, I am not a copyright lawyer... Nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
