Dave,

Great to meet you and thanks for taking the time and effort to put this together. You've encouraged me to be more socially active in GA, something I have not done too much of in a while.

Mitch is easy to recognize in the photo.  We met at KOSH five or six years ago in the MAPA space.

The photos are great.  Thanks for sharing.

Get ready for another round!

Best regards,

That sucks for me seeing all those blue skies. It got better here too, but not until about 2pm. About an hour after my last post, I looked out the window and saw scattered clouds at about 500-700ft over my house in Discovery Bay and totally believed the weather forecast. This afternoon was very flyable with high ceilings and some blue skies. Oh well, I'll try to do better at getting to fly ins this year than last, particularly while gas is cheap.

Sorry I missed it.

Ditto, the skies finally broke and showed us the blue stuff around 3pm.  The 2" of snow that fell overnight was gone by then as well.

I'll catch the next one for sure, hopefully when it's a little warmer and weather isn't such an issue with icing being an issue while getting over the Sierras.

Looked like a great turn out otherwise.

Cheers,

Brian

It was a pleasure to see everyone and finally put faces to names. Thanks Dave for all the work you put in.

Let's do this again. (Perhaps Something regular)

Thanks again

It was great meeting everyone and to those I didn't have a chance to talk to, hopefully next time.

Sorry, didn't get a chance to connect with everyone on the other table. Hopefully the next one is more amenable to the pilots from the south land. Santa Maria, San Luis Obispo seem like good candidates. Probably a bit far for those further north in CA, Oregon etc. Easier in summer when the weather cooperates and is generally more VFR.

It was a really nice get together and to bad for the several people unable to come as a result of the weather. I did an IFR departure out of San Diego and climbed to 6000' and was between a couple of layers until LAX. From there I was above it at 8000' until it open up and I cancelled at SNS. This is where a beutiful red and white long body passed underneath me and I followed it in, later to find our that it was Mitch's plane. Great bunch of people and a perfect place for a fly-in lunch.

After the get together was over StinkBug and I flew over the Sierra's, stayed the night and went skiing today. The flight over was gorgeous! I have a few photos to share.

Dead center in this photo is Half Dome in Yosemite cover with snow and popping out of the valley fog.

In another post I took a photo and posted it of me standing at the exit of this gondola station at 11,053' this time I'm flying:)

WOW!  Spectacular photos, thank you.  As pilots, we are so fortunate to have the view so many don't.  Thank you for sharing.  Hope your downhills were terrific!

K,

Do you use your oximeter when skiing at that altitude?

Skiing at 11,000' used to take me a day to get used to.

Nice photos, thanks for sharing.

Good idea! I'll bring the oximeter next time and see what I find out. I seem to be less O2 sensitive than other people. I forgot to ask Dave how his altitude training went.

Great times meeting everybody. It was a pretty packed weekend for me. Brought a PnP rescue dog up to WVI with me to hand off to another pilot before lunch with the MS crew. Snowboarding today with Karson was a blast and the flying was wonderful. My engine started getting a little rough on the way home though, very subtle but I noticed it. When I got home I did a runup and there's definitely something not right when running on the left mag. It damn near dies. Gonna get it into the shop to see what's up tomorrow probably. Hopefully it just needs some plugs or something simple. Fingers crossed.

Karson,

I didn't end up going. The weather was marginal with icing forecast on the last 100 miles of the flight from 11K' down to around 6k'. I think I probably would have made it in but getting out and home was a question. I didn't want to miss the get together the next day.

Yeah, that would have been no bueno for the host to not make it to his own fly-in. Glad you made it Dave.
