Just took my C over to LASAR for an oil change I don't have a spin off so I try to keep it close to 25 hours. Went 28 went through 3.5 quarts for that time and the screen was nice n clean. There were 6 or 7 Mooney's on the ramp mostly J's or newer one was being taken back home and then they were going to bring back a 252 from Palo-alto I think. No news is good news. When I started it up after it was so smooth and quiet these big air cooled motors love their oil. Yum yum

Wow! I'm at 15 hours since change, and was down to just over 5 quarts. Had I been going to fly more than 20 minutes it start annual, is gave put one in. With my shiny new filter, I'll need to add more than one now.

Well that's just about 8.5 hrs per quart and I have to admit some does end up on the Hangar floor I think it's coming from the pilot side rocker covers. Basically I'm happy how it's performing. Nice to have a real boring post.

Here's some excitement. My 05 v6 Honda accord has 91k miles and I've changed the oil 3 times since it was new. Blackstone got the last sample with 33k on it and they said it was still serviceable. Synthetic oil. Of course it can't carry lead so it's uses in aircraft is limited. But the stuff lasts forever in a car. Even when it hits the rev limiter twice a day.

Certainly nothing wrong with 8.5 per hour.   :)

Its easy to convert over to a spin on filter.  The PMA version of the filter adapter is only around $150 and it just bolts on.

How many quarts do you add between oil changes? I change at 10-12k and never had to add any which always impresses me. 2012 Civic with 105k miles.

At that rate you have to add oil before fuel!!

To go along with Byron's point, 03 Honda CRV 185000 on it and only change the oil and filter once a year regardless of mileage.Being a jet engine guy, I do love the synthetic oils in my cars.

It took about 12000 miles to use one quart, then perhaps 1-2 more. I don't remember it took 3 years to put the miles on it.

I just chAnged it today. It was still brown, not black. Also I cut the filter open since I was at the hangar. It looked like a new filter inside and it was the Mobil 1 m1-110 filter which is only 3x3, thy use it on motorcycles.

What's LASAR charge for an oil change these days?

Since I did the lions share of the work (cowl removal and install) it was only 119.00 including oil. They removed my screen for inspection and reinstalled with a new gasket. Best part is I get to check out all those Mooney's that happen to be there.

Not bad, I would have figured twice that!

Where do I get this and what is involved in installation on my 65C? I have no filter at this time.

The oil pressure sending unit is on the housing for the oil screen does the spin off filter accommodate this. As for me I'll stick with the screen I only run 25 hrs between changes and my oil comes out real clean. I know the filter adds better filtration but as I've said before and I know you guys are tired of hearing it. If it works don't fix it. Also I don't know if the spin off filter could reduce oil flow because it's denser probably not but its a thought

Bought mine from Aeroinstock at the suggestion of another mooneyspacer:

The gasket is different and I don't remember the part number but just give them a call and they'll match it up. Bolts right in place and I installed it myself under an IA's supervision.
