Need a one piece windshield

Recommended Posts

Just ordered the LP quarter inch thick one piece green tinted windshield from vantage plane plastics. Their price was only 592.93 shipped. With a 900 dollar install cost that puts me at 1500 total for a one piece windshield upgrade. I do need to buy a new mount for my compass though. Bob said he can relocate the oat gauge to somewhere just outside the side window. I didn't really follow what he was trying to explain. I don't want the probe to be visible and want to go digital with it, probably in the yoke mounted clock.

I hope his install is better than his fibreglass work. I bought a set of his new manufacture nose bowls for my Comanche from him. After paying in advance and then hounding him for months, they finally arrived. It will take me more work to fit these than fix my old one.

He should retire.

My OAT was mounted in the side window in front of the vent door. But the EDM 930 has its own OAT and so does the Aspen so I removed the "mechanical" one and filled the hole with clear silicone to pick up about 5 kts.

I'm thinking 1/4" SG all around will be a good project for next winter.

Question: is a 201 windshield a 201 windshield? In 1993 my M20E got a "201 windshield Lake Aero STC SA3263NM   part list # 310316-001".

I suppose I can order a new 201 w'shield and get the right thingy? That is there are only 3 skus: the original 2 piece, a one piece contoured as the 2 piece, and a 201 with modern slope.  I'm talking size/shape, not thickness or tint. Right?

I did the 1/4" SC gray from Great Lakes Aero in my 201. It was a hassle fitting it but I do think it's slightly quieter but the real payoff is the clarity and the heat control. It's difficult to quantify but the improvement is real. The side windows are still green and it doesn't exactly match but I'll go gray with the others later.

I note GLA has a 201 ws @ $367.22 plus .25" @ $62.38 plus Gray @ $73.44 = $503.04

"SC" adds another $154.24. What does the SC get you? Solar ?

The Solar Gray gets you a the smoke color but also UV blocking and solar radiation rejection.  This means the cockpit does not heat up and your interior fabric and plastic parts do not degrade as fast.  For the slight cost difference of replacing a window I would not get anything else today, it is far superior to all other types.
