Marauder Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 What kind of air speeds are you seeing in your F? Mine is a 75 as well but with some speed mods (windshield, gap seals, flaps seals, lower cowl enclosure & a pilot who lost 75 pounds). I flight plan 150 KTAS and I believe I am within a knot or two of this speed. If I aft load on the CG, I am a little faster but if I load up near MTOW, I am losing 4 or 5 knots. Quote
bonal Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 I flight plan for 145Tas in our C then factor WA. And thanks again Marauder you seem to know exactly when I get over my panel envy! 2 Quote
N7186V Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 I flew back from my annual, finally, on Sunday at 140 mph indicated @ 10,5. When I got back I used the 3 heading method to determine my true air speed - 139.4 KTAS 160.4MPH. Quote

scottfromiowa Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Does somebody love to post photos of his panel...or what? Can we just get a header on top of Mooneyspace with a photo? That would be awesome. Quote
ArtVandelay Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Just doing my fair share to keep the avionics shops busy... I do have 1 criticism of your panel, I don't think you should have the 5 Ts placarded, what's up with that? Quote
MB65E Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 Hi TJ, if your being sarcastic I missed it... It's used as a reminder for instrument approach sequence. I think it's fine! It's A good reminder what to do when the magenta line turnes Black! -Matt Quote

I hate placards and and have gone about removing them from instrument panel, maybe that's just me, I find them unsightly, like bumper stickers, and don't belong on a otherwise very nice panel. we all use checklists, I have one for just for IFR, am I the only one? pinerunner Posted November 4, 2014 Report Posted November 4, 2014 21 inches manifold pressure is a pretty low power setting. Quote

We have checklists for Before Start, Before Takeoff, After Takeoff, Before Landing, After Landing, and Securing posted on our dash. Anything I can do to keep both hands free is good in my book. If my wife is with me, she reads and I respond.  Personally, if I'm alone I read all of them except before landing (which is posted as GUMPS) but I really use 1, 2, 3, 4 (1 on the floor - fuel selector, 2 on the pedestal - flaps and trim, 3 on the quadrant - mixture-prop-cowl flaps, and 4 switches - lights-pitot-pump-trim) before takeoff. I use GFP (gear, flaps, pump) for after takeoff and GGFFPP for landing (Gas selector, Gear, Fuel Mixture, Flaps, Prop and Pump) before landing.  Bob Quote

Some (most or all) of those placards are legally required to be there. Remove them if you will, but if your AI is paying attention during your annual, he'll need to replace them all prior to signing your airplane off as airworthy. 1 Quote

Jerry 5TJ Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 Gee, my Mooney is slow, too. Â ...I was talking to a former SR71 driver the other day... Â Â he said, yeah, after topping off from the tanker over Beale AFB it would take about an hour to cruise up to Alaska, ho-hum, nothing much to do but wish the plane were faster.... Â He also claimed "you've never been lost until you've been lost at Mach 3"Â so there is some virtue in noodling along at 140 knots while you peer at the chart (OK, at your iPad) and try to figure out what is that lake down there, etc. Â Â 2 Quote

bonal Posted November 6, 2014 Report Posted November 6, 2014 Being lost at mach 3 now thats funny. unless it were happening to me of corse. Quote
WardHolbrook Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Well I had a professional do the work, but I wrote the check It doesn't matter who built the panel or wrote the check, if the required placards are not installed as per the requirements of the aircraft type certificate the aircraft is unairworthy. There is a 7 page list of the required placards and where they must be installed in Section II of your M20J POH. There is also a list of placards that are not required for airworthiness. You might want to verify that your airplane is still compliant before it is flown again. Quote
cliffy Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 +1 with Ward It won't pass an annual without the required placards. If an IA signs it off that way he'll be seeing the Feds if they see it. Quote
DrBill Posted November 9, 2014 Report Posted November 9, 2014 Here is what my 65 E did going to SSI yesterday; 146Kts true, 2400/24 inches 9.4 GPH at 5000 feet. 10 deg C Ground speed went to 165 Kts as we passed Columbia SC.  Love my Mooney. Bill  1 Quote
N9405V Posted November 10, 2014 Author Report Posted November 10, 2014 Ok, I'm coming to accept that my previous post might have been in error. We flew yesterday, stayed low, but pushed the levers a little more forward and were clipping along a lot faster than we had been. 155kts going east and 135kts going west. Only went about 80 miles one way, but I think it was definitely pilot error in the first post. 2 Quote
