Tommy Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 Hi guys! Just wondering what ipad (mini) yoke mount options are there available for a 81 J? Thanks Tommy Quote
Alan Fox Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I use a ram ball and a hose clamp... Quote
Houman Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 Same here, I usually take off with out it, and once stablished in cruise I put it on, then when finished reviewing my approach and have the airport in sight, I remove it again for the landing phase... I can fly with it attached, but just feel more comfortable without it during the critical takeoff and landing phases... Quote
Danb Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 Same but when I don't snap the mini in place I use the mount as a clipboard.. Quote
Bob - S50 Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I'm a true Mooney (cheap) guy. I attach my Samsung phone to the yoke with two rubber bands! Bob Quote
PaulB Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I bought mine on Amazon and got it cheaper than Sportys and with free shipping. Works great with the Mini. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BMEIE7Y/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Quote
flyboy0681 Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 I use the Ram too. Anyone ever notice that if you place it in the mount "upside down", where the button is on top, that it shuts off because the mount presses on the power switch? I discovered this when I flipped it to see how the mini works with the Bad Elf GPS receiver. Quote
DAVIDWH Posted October 18, 2014 Report Posted October 18, 2014 Bob, Now I am really confused. I thought the rubber banding technique had something to do with moving the magenta course line?? Quote
Piloto Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 I made an L shape bracket that is clamped to the yoke shaft just behind the yoke for the 560. It allows me to rest my wrist on the yoke while using the touchscreen. It keeps my wrist firm while in turbulence. For the Samsung below I removed the Mooney logo from its holding bracket and stick a Velcro strip on the bracket and the mate at the phone. When not in use I Velcro back the logo to the yoke. The arrangement works very well in areas where the only source for weather is your smartphone. José Quote
ryoder Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 I am thinking of putting Velcro strips on the yoke so that I can mount my large phone onto it with the phone in a case where the case has Velcro on its back. Quote

Some sort of anti-glare device? I have a 500 that doesn't have that. Quote
Piloto Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 It is a hood that just attach to front of the unit. It keeps the sun away from the screen, thus enhancing the contrast in direct sunlight. Very effective and cheap. I got it at Banyan Store for about $20. Well worth it. José Quote
Gone Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 I use the RAM mount too. I got it from Sporty's at Airventure this year. Then I bought the iPad to go with it in September. Quote
Bob - S50 Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 Bob, Now I am really confused. I thought the rubber banding technique had something to do with moving the magenta course line?? No, usually you wind up the propeller to put twists in the rubber band. When you let go the propeller spins and away you go. (Let's see if you are old enough to remember that one). I just put one rubber band over each horn of the yoke and down to the base. I slip the phone in with one rubber band on each end of the phone (Samsung Galaxy S4). Bob Quote
Cfidave Posted October 19, 2014 Report Posted October 19, 2014 If you have the IPad mini Retina display, make sure you get the Ram Mount specific to the Retina Mini. Quote
