Question for someone who might know... Are all of the mid body wings the same? Meaning, are parts such as ailerons, wing mounted landing lights, etc. interchangeable between the F, J and K wings?

the wings are all basically the same with minor differences in tank configurations.depending on the yr, with the exception of the twisted wing they did for a few yrs on the f in the late 60's

Some of the elevators are different (ribbed versus non-ribbed). There are some features on some models but not on others. Like the wing mounted landing light. Unless it was retrofitted, you won't find one on an F.

Later model J & K models also will have wing tip fairings and wing root fairings.

This came from a well know engineer at Mooney a few years ago.

The spar in the F and J are identical except for the holes and slots to mount the reclining rear seat controls.  The leading edge structure is identical to the K except for the wing lighting added on the later serial numbers.

There is less fuel capacity in the C/E wing... but I don't know if that means the internal structure is different or not.  Perhaps the F/G/J wing just has an extra bay sealed.  Maybe the filler is in a different location.

I needed new aileron pushrods and got brand new ones from the factory- they fit the M20B - M20TN. I've been told the basic wing structure is the same as well.

From my factory tour some years ago I recall being told that all metal wings were assembled on the same jig. Differences being internal additions and changes.

I think the same holds true for most of the flight controls, many common parts.

For what it's worth - I recently bought a '91 J that crashed in 1998, and the wings were replaced with wings from a '73F.

The wings have the modified wing tips with enclsoed strobes and nav lights and also have taxi/landing lights installed in each wing (which I assume must have been a modification to the F wing).

I'm no expert, but as far as I can tell, my plane performs just like any other J.

That's correct. All metal wings were fabricated on that one big jig.

I wanted to look into the possibility of getting wing mounted landing lights on my 78 J. I can't get the factory to tell me if they sell the parts for the wing mounted lights in order to see about getting them installed on a 337.

I would like to do this as well.

The C, D, E and G all have same fuel capacity once they went flush caps. The F and J have an additional bay sealed. If you look at the service bulletin on fuel holes between bays, it shows the layout and bays sealed on all models through at least the K.

There were changes to the flight controls between various years but the wing itself is the same outside of how the fuel tanks are sealed.
