I'm looking for recommendations on a good avionics shop in the Austin or close, area.

I've got a high pitched alarm/sound that I can't find.  It only is on at low power and is somewhat intermittent.  It's not the gear horn. My Zulu headset tunes it out pretty well, so it's not overly loud, but is very annoying.

Ideally I'd like to find someone to take a look at it who isn't afraid of the very tight confines behind the panel in my C model.

Thanks,

Have you pulled your stall warning and gear warning circuit breakers just to be sure it isn't one of these? You will need to have both pulled at the same time. My stall warning alarms during heavy rain sometimes. Lee

You can also try applying a little side pressure in each direction on the throttle while it is going off and see if it stops. If that stops is then the switch arm can usually be adjusted a little to fix the problem.

It may not be avionics noise. Try turning off your strobes/rotating beacon. Try doing a magneto check at low power when it is making the noise. If that doesn't affect it, turn off your alternator or generator.

If it doesn't make the noise with the engine not running, it is likely magnetos or alternator.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice.  I get the noise without the prop turning.  So it doesn't seem to be the alternator or the mags. I've confirmed that the lights, strobes, etc. have no effect.  I'll try pulling the breaker for the stall horn and see if that makes a difference.  But I do know both the stall warning and gear warning is a different sound and both work as expected.  I've also got an electric backup AI but turning it on or off doesn't make a difference. Finally, the avionics master switch doesn't have any effect either.

I think I'll take it in and let someone have a look.

On the recommendation I took it to McKee at San Marcus.  It's the gear horn.  I'll get it fixed after OSH.

Not sure if you ever stopped by, but I had another great experience with McKee Avionics.  They did my panel update about 18 months ago and I recently started having some Mode-C issues and Comm 2 was practically unusable.  I dropped the plane off with them and they had it back up and running in no time.  Total charge: $0.00.
