PTK Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Anyone with experience flying into KRDU (Raleigh-Durham International)? How GA friendly are they? Looking to fly into Raleigh area and stay a couple of days. RDU seems very convenient.
Hank Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 I went a couple of years ago. Very easy, good FBO, rental car was stone simple to pick up. I'd go again.
Danb Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 I've flown into Rdu a few times and there was no problem, the folks at the fob were friendly..no bad items to mention..just don't buzz the tower, I was given an immediate L turn and complied, the controller mentioned gun and was glad his coffee was on his desk...I have to assume he was kidding a bit..... 1
DrBill Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 I have been there several times (in/out same day) stayed overnight once. I've used both FBOs but the last time I went to TAC air (was something JET at the time). I used to use LANDMARK but they changed all the personnel and got really tough on the "landing fee". On a day trip I'd fly in and tell then when I'm leaving then order a pair of PIZZAS to be delivered at noon from my work location with my N number on the box. I'd arrrive and the plane would be waiting and a big grin on the people saying thankyou !! Cheaper than the 10gal of $7 fuel. BILL 2
midlifeflyer Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Airport is an easy Class C with both Landmark and TAC Air with easy on/off access to the shorter parallel runway. Since when I fly there I am flying airplanes based there, can't comment personally on the relative merits of the FBOs for transients, but I generally like the folks at the TAC Air FBOs I've frequented.
FloridaMan Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Landmark at KRDU sucks and is out of character for landmark. I had the worst FBO experience of my life there. Not only were the line guys rude and disrespectful, I asked to handle my own plane and they gave assurances that it wouldn't be moved. When I returned, they had moved the plane and bent my nose truss on top of it.
Jeff_S Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Used TACAir a couple of years ago and had a great experience. Prices were reasonable for a larger airport FBO.
Seth Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 Stopped there a few times in the past few years - very GA friendly.

201er Posted May 2, 2014 Report Posted May 2, 2014 I agree with all. Good/easy airport. Landmark ok but pretty rude and not as good as you'd expect landmark to be.
lahso Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 Hate to hear that about Landmark. I was there about four years ago on a PnP flight, and they were really good to us.
Piloto Posted June 17, 2014 Report Posted June 17, 2014 I never had any problems with Landmark at KRDU on the four times I have parked with them. They had the car rental on the ramp next to the plane when I arrived. They were friendly and helpful to me. José
