Well, it looks like the options for a replacement spinner are that I have to buy a brand new one for a rare LoPresti F with a Hartzell prop (J cowl dimensions). The spinner assembly is more than $2000 and I have the option of mirror polished or painted. Which would you do?

Polished (I needed to replace mine in January and I mounted as is - I have not gotten it polished yet. Looks also quite good as is.)

Mine is "polished", but only because I bought it that way. If you like to repeatedly polish metal, then go polished. If you like to just slap a little wax on and call it a day, go painted. If the spinner is maintained with a high luster, you will get more Ooooos, and Wows and it will help distract from a lousy paint job a bit. However, if it's half assed polished like mine... not so much.

I have often wondered about the hybrid approach. Get the spinner highly polished and then either clear powder coated, or sprayed.

I originally had a painted spinner. However, I recently sent it to Mirror Finsh Polishing for polishing and it looks awesome. The guys name is Tony Brock. The price was reasonable, about 300.00. Take a look at their website..

Replaced my N/G painted with polished that I found here on MS. gave the old one to my wife to use as planter in her garden. she has noticed that the plants she put in it have out paced the other ones she planted at the same time in other pots. So if you want the fastest plants you must have Mooney planters.SPINNER1.pdfSPINNER2.pdf

When I needed to replace mine due to a small crack, the wife insisted on getting a polished one. Any idea why women prefer polished spinners?

Shiny, like expensive jewelery. Shiny always better.

I like painted.....no polishing, no fingerprints, no questions of legality, and with the right paint job makes the plane look longer.

it doesn't matter how long your plane is, it's what you do with it.   :D

Mine's polished. Must be some good polish, it looks like a mirror after almost 4 years and I havent done anything to it.

This actually was a technical photo to check the spinner alignment after shimming the engine. Check that.

I polish mine... It's pretty easy with the new products on the market like California Custom.  Even the Mother's product wasn't too bad and did a great job.

Sent mine to Tony and the results were absolutely amazing.
