Wanted: Tailpipe (exhaust) hangar assembly clamp 1977 M20J

Hi all,

 

Looking for a tailpipe hanger assembly clamp (the actually clamp that fits over the tailpipe) for a '77 J.  It's referenced as #16 in the parts catalogue figure (link below).  It's part number 630120-003.

Aerospace welding has that clamp as I had to replace mine a couple years ago. Sit down when you order it, it's about 110$.

I have the springs on my "C" one of these days I will end up changing over to the strap. can't believe they charge so much must be a 1000% markup

Take all the bits of the old one and the sketch from your post to the local welding shop.  Make sure they draw or temper the completed arc weld with a torch to avoid brittleness.   Difficult to imagine what they could not fix.  This is just a hanger, not a precision machine part.

It's a simple stainless strap bent into a circle. After looking at al the options to repair it, spending 100$ on a new one was far easier.

With my M20F I would get exhaust cracks every few years. The hanger would constantly tear up the hanger strap. I finally just took it off. I never got another exhaust crack.

An oversized washer may or may not be an acceptable answer to that crack in that particular location.
