I would love to have my seats and side panels replaced but of course for reasonable cost. It looks like the new seat covers with the foam padding from Airtex and my labor would cost around $ 1500 for my M20J.

Does anybody have any experience with it? How much work is it and is it doable for average handy guy?

I had airtex do my complete interior in my 88 j. Awesome job, look at their web site and click on the 88 mooney and they have pix there...they did carpet also..pix are shown w/0 headrest they were not complete when they did the portfolio pix...

I did my J and I'm very happy with their work too. Have their leather seats and carpet and found they fit pretty well. Had a bit of a time taking out the old carpet and all the glue however. You might consider replacing the insulation with soundex.  While I had the interior out I did this and noticed an improvement in both a warmer cab and a bit less noisy.

For my 65C...

I used the Airtex rug, wall panels and door trim windlace...

The more skill you have, the better the result will be...

If you are replacing the original materials, be prepared to amaze yourself.

Search for leather seat projects on this site for insight on improvements...

Ok. Thank you. How about the plastic panels? Is there any way to clean them to get rid of the yellow aged surface? Can you paint it over with some special paint? Or is the replacement only option?

Also, the door and baggage door seal. It looks like some kind of fabric and it is falling apart?

Thank you.

People like Rustoleum and Krylon  make some spray paints they say are specifically for plastic, but I have found that ordinary Krylon works quite well on the interior plastic parts.

Bob,

I just replaced my interior with an airtex interior, I did the upgrade to leather and am very happy with the work they did. They were also great at making alterations to make the fit more precise. I also had older seats that required custom fitting, because of that I just had them install the covering on the seats which was only a few hundred more, but was worth it to me not to have to play with it. As for the krylon on the plastic, it works great. I just haven't found the correct color for my new interior so I will have to get mine custom painted.

I am still totally delighted with the interior done several years ago by Aero Comfort in San Antonio... Hector was a joy to work with, the price seemed reasonable, and I didn't have to do it myself!

I have used SEM spray paints on two planes now. Extract the parts, clean thoroughly, first coat of SEM Sand Free, then color coat. Looks brand new.

Also, I'm preparing to install our set of Airtex seats. Glad to hear good comments.

I can't wait to see the final result. Please let me know how many man hours it took you to do that and how hard it is for a average skilled aviator..

+1 for Airtex. They did a great job updating their designs a few years back.

Plane Plastics has nearly every panel you need, if they are brittle don't bother to paint, get new ones and paint them with the SEM system, the paint will block UV and the new ones will last a lot longer.

I had my interior done at the Airtex Factory in Trenton, NJ. They do great work. They're order out stuff is excellent. I am in the middle of using Aerosheep for sheep skin covers. In fact I am measuring today (PIREP to follow). If you get stuck at all with your Airtex measuring, etc., call Dodd Stretch. He accessible and is a great guy to speak with.

I know it is expensive, but if it is custom and just the front seats, ship 'em.

EDIT: Wait... I just saw your signature. You are in NJ. Just fly over and pull up to the shop. Cools guys and they enjoy the company.

SEM makes paint specifically for plastic interior panels. It is the best product for this use.
