mikesalman Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 I would say 60k-75k. I just purchased my 68F Jan 22 with 2800TT and about 600 on the engine, 8 interior 8 on the paint w/ Garmin 430, EDM-830, 2 blade prop w 70 hours. No speed mods or speed brakes. I love it it's my first airplane and I only had a 130 hours when I bought it, no regrets. Good luck and get a pre-buy from a Mooney service center. Quote
DonMuncy Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Jimmy Garrison of All American Aircraft, has a frequent column in MAPA Log about evaluation of all groups of Mooneys. Jimmy and David McGee are up-to-date on what Mooneys are worth. If you don't have access to the MAPA Log, PM me and I will dig out, scan and e-mail you the latest one which includes F models. Quote
rbridges Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 that sounds like a beautiful plane. Don's suggestion to look at Jimmy Garrison's valuation list is a very good idea. My bank used it to help finance my plane. I would think you're at least 70, but by the time you get into the 70's, people start looking at J models. Are you looking to sell or buy that particular plane? 1 Quote
chrisk Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Sounds like a nice plane. Having been in the market and searching for 6 months before I bought my bird in April, I would have had a hard time paying more than 60 to 65 for a F. I found this on trade-a-plane http://www.trade-a-plane.com/detail/1656787.html You might use it as a reference for price. Quote
Hank Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Jimmy's evaluation is also in the Mooney Flyer, e-published monthly by a couple of Mooneyspacers. It's a link to a website, pick and play and it will spit out a price. Check www.mooneyflyer.com and if that's wrong, google "mooney flyer" for the correct one. They usually post here when a new issue comes out, too. Quote
N601RX Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 I think Jimmy's prices for an F are high. I don't think many if any sell for the value his data says they are worth. His data will easily price an F in the high 60's to middle 70's, Quote
pirate Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Not directed at anyone here I've been hearing this the past few years. I always read things like after 60-70 grand you can get Into a J............maybe worn workable J but not a very nice updated J like the F listed. 2 Quote
KSMooniac Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 That would be an $80k+ F in my book, and was exactly what I was shopping for years ago before I bought my J. I don't like the 3 blade metal prop (that is a deduction IMO) and it doesn't say if the 530 is WAAS or not. Presuming regular use and maintenance, that would be strong buy, even if you end up paying a bit much for an F. It should have very-near J performance, and you won't touch a J of any year with similar specs for less than $100k. You couldn't take a $50k F and improve it to that level for less than $100k either. $15k autopilot, $10k GPS, $8k reseal, $3k xponder, $3k+ engine monitor, $5k powerflow, $5k 201 cowl/windscreen (guessing)... those improvements add up very quickly. Sounds like a nice bird! This is the elusive manual gear / hydraulic flap F that so many 'spacers seem to want. I know of a similarly-equipped electric F for sale, too, 1975 model I think. Quote

FloridaMan Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 I wouldn't pay much more than about $60k for what you described. Keep in mind that you can get a fairly well-equipped "F" for around $40k. Quote
jetdriven Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 Something is going on with Jimmy's value calculator. It shows a 1977 M20J with 5000 AFTT, 200 SFRM A3B6, KX170 radios, alt hold autopilot, excellent paint, average interior as 73K The same 1977 M20F with 201 windshield, cowl, 4K for factory reman, is 85K. No way. Quote
rainman Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 The F Chris pointed out on Trade-A-Plane is very nice with dual 430 WAAS etc and 175 hrs on the engine and prop and it's listed for $70K so $65 will probably get it....that's a pretty good comparison. Quote

IIRC, that plane has been for sale for a while. I remember the cowling without the stripes. Something doesn't feel right about it, but I may be paranoid. Quote

Something doesn't feel right about it, but I may be paranoid. It looked weird to me too, but then I noticed the cowling was a Lopresti (I think). A check for proper paper work would certainly be in order. And sometimes I wonder if a plane can have to many mods Quote
DaV8or Posted June 29, 2013 Report Posted June 29, 2013 On the topic of this F for sale, questions- Does it have a real 201 cowl, or is it 201 style? Is it electric, or manual gear and flaps? Based on the info given, if the plane has a real 201 cowl and assuming it has a new six pack panel, and it's manual gear, I'll be the outlier here and say I'd price it at $80K. Will it sell fast? Nope, but to the discerning Mooney buyer who has done their homework, they will recognize this unique bird and it's value proposition. Can you buy a J for less? Yes, but it will not have these avionics, nor will it have manual gear which some highly regard. It'll probably have a pretty hideous interior as well. It probably won't have as good an auto pilot either. If the F in question has a modern panel, a real 201 cowl and a 201 windshield, it has most of the important J improvements already and so moving to a J won't buy you much over this plane. A similarly equipped J would be at least $90-$100k, maybe even more. There is value in this F, it's not the more standard close to stock F you see all the time for about $45-50K. Remember, the cowl mod you can't do anymore, so you can't build up a budget J from an F anymore. Quote

There must be something really wrong with it, like improper paperwork, major corrosion, poor install... something. Otherwise, why would anyone buy a J over this plane? There's a lot of savings to be found here if all is proper. 1 Quote

That ad is a little misleading in that it says there's not another M20F like it...and I should know... http://mooneyspace.com/gallery/image/33968-img-2111/ Quote
