I have had a consistent error trying to access this site from my Verizon mobile connection ever since the new site went online.  I get a message of "404 file not found" if I try to go to a specific page.  If I try to load the Mooneyspace main page, I get a page that simply says "Apache is functioning normally."  This has persisted for a long time now.  It also persists through Tapatalk, Chrome, and the standard Android browser on my phone.

I know it is the connection because if I connect my phone to WiFi, it accesses the page no problem.  Likewise, if I connect my iPad or my PC to my phone's connection through its WiFi, the iPad and PC cannot access this page.

I have no other pages I have difficulty accessing.  I have tried manually changing the DNS server to Google's OpenDNS but it makes no difference.

It seems likely that for some reason my Verizon connection keeps finding the old server instead of the new server.

From my networking experience, the easiest solution would probably be to "Forward" all incoming traffic on the old server to the new server.

I would lurk and post here a lot more often if my phone could access the site.  Whether that's a good thing or not might be debatable, but there could be a significant portion of the internet that cannot access Mooneyspace.

That is really odd. Unfortunately I don't have an account at the old host so the forwarding option would not be possible more than likely.

On a PC I know you could fix this by adding a manual entry to your hosts file. This is located normally in C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc - a text file named "hosts" (no extension)

At the end of the file somewhere you just add an entry like:

198.74.57.200 mooneyspace.com

198.74.57.200 www.mooneyspace.com

Note that this is a hard coded DNS entry so if we ever move servers, etc then you will have to update this to our new IP address.

I wish there were more I could do to help but this sounds like an issue with Verizon.

Also, if you can - open a command prompt window and execute "ping mooneyspace.com"

I am curious to see what the IP address is that you are getting that is leading to the bad site.

Craig,

Another question for you...

I volunteer at a school. They have a need for an Internet forum similar to MooneySpace for there students.

It would be a closed system for 1,000 people or less.

Can you share info on how to set this up for them and what the costs may be?

You can send me a PM or EM if there is sensitive info.

Best regards,

An interesting turn of events - putting 198.74.57.200 into the address bar on the browser on my phone also leads to the "Apache is functioning normally" page.  I had thought it must be a DNS issue but the failure of the hard IP to get here suggests its something else.  Any ideas?

Jared - All URLs involving Mooneyspace in any way, shape or form fail.  Also can't get it loaded from a search result link.

I can't seem to run a cmd window on my phone.  It's actually the first phone I've had in 4 or 5 years that I have not rooted yet, so I have limited access to those types of things.  When I get home tonight I'll connect my PC to the phone's WiFi and do a ping / tracert and post it.

I get a 404 error probably 90% of the time when I try to access http://mooneyspace.com via Firefox v21 for Mac.  I always have to use Safari v6.04, and even then it only succeeds about 60% of the time.  It rarely, if ever, fails with Safari on my iPad.

The error message is generated by Apache, so it is most likely not a DNS issue.  For the record, I did verify that nslookup returns 198.74.57.200 for mooneyspace.com and www.mooneyspace.com.

The error might be coming from apache because it is going to the old web server which no longer has the Mooneyspace website on it.

I will pass this topic on to my host though to see if they have ideas on what might be causing it.

Thanks for all the feedback!

Thanks for fixing this problem, This is the first time I've been able to access this site on my laptop using a AT&T server. I hope this stays fixed. Thanks again for checking this out and repairing the problem. In the past I was only able to access your site on my I-pad and it was off and on to access.

I've been accessing this site using my AT&T smart phone for almost 4 years . . . It's quite slow with an "Edge" connection, 3G works great, 4G is wonderful! Even works using wifi. I thought it had something to do with Verizon from the initial posters until you chimed in. AT&T Droid; Windows desktop at work; Droid tablet; iPad 1 & 2; no problems with any of them.

Posting this from my Verizon 4g connection. I think you have it fixed. Thank you very much. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
