Someguy Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Does anyone have access to the overhaul and maintenance manual from aero force. My turbo is leaking oil out of the compressor side into the intake system. I don't really want to spend the 625 dollars on the manual only to find out I need special tooling to complete the job. 400600-0000 E Aircraft Turbocharger Overhaul & Maintenance Quote
LANCECASPER Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 The top maintenance shops in the country don't overhaul turbos on airplanes that they maintain. They send them out to people that do this everyday, that have the equipment and the tools, have an inventory of parts, and the test equipment to make sure they got it right. If what you're trying to do is overhaul this yourself, that would not be wise. The premier shop that you'll hear over and over is Main Turbo. https://www.mainturbo.com/ 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted April 30 Report Posted April 30 Usually, if the turbo is leaking into the compressor or turbine housing, it is because of a bad check valve. Take apart and clean the check valves before you do anything with the turbo. 3 Quote
philiplane Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 the check valves in the turbo oil supply system keep excess oil from leaching past the turbo bearing upon shut down. These valves require service from time to time. When they don't seat due to small bits of debris, you get oil in the induction system and in the tailpipe. Quote
Someguy Posted May 1 Author Report Posted May 1 I did remove and clean both of the check valves. The supply valve spring was intact. That spring offered little resistance to the flow of oil but still closed. However the return valve, (the one with the little flapper door) the spring was there but it would open under its own weight if held upside down. Which points me in that direction as to the cause of the oil in the inlet. The other problem is that check valve is anywhere from $1250-$1500 new P/N=641068. All I need is a spring. Does anyone have information as to where to find that spring or overhaul the check valve? It seems ridiculous to pay 1250 for a whole new valve when I'm being held back for a $5 spring. For now I have positioned the valve so that the hinge is at the 12 o clock position and will close under its own weight. I'll run it up tomorrow and update on the results. 1 Quote

Bigdaddie Posted May 1 Report Posted May 1 I've been looking at this place. You'd have to take the stance that you don't know how it got fixed. I haven't checked in a while, but arn't the clamps like gold these days? http://www.turbo-power.com/ Quote

Getting the clamps that say PMA on them is the issue. Quote

You might make a case that they are standard parts. The racing clamps are built a lot sturdier, out of thicker material. I think the aviation clamps were built to be as light as possible, because they are aircraft parts. https://shop-us.garrettmotion.com/spare-parts-v-band-clamp-560-gtx47-gtx50-gtx55-gen-i-gen-ii/p Quote

geoffb Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago (edited) If the bushings are tight and no significant axial play, it's a check valve. I went through the same thought exercise of replacing the spring, blah, blah. I needed it fixed. Bought a check valve. No issues now. worst part is dealing with the adel clamps.
