Went flying today and noticed that my hydraulic reservoir is leaking.  Few drops on the carpet below it.  I initially thought the parking brake O rings were leaking again but I had them replaced about 3 years ago.  Looked up there and it almost looks like it’s coming from the filler fitting?  Could it really leak from the top?  Anyone else worked on the reservoir? It’s pretty hard to get to with the 201 windshield… what does the top even look like?

That looks like its leaking from the fitting used to fill the reservoir via the thick tube from the other side of the firewall.  The very top has a fitting with a skinny copper tube routed to the other side of the firewall for pressure relief (also apparent in the pic).  If the pressure relief line isn't fully patent and the reservoir is overfilled, stuff will leak from wherever it can.  Perhaps its leaking around loose threads for the filler fitting now that bottom o-rings are tight.  You could try to plunge the pressure relief tube with a wire or something.  I don't think it's a big deal though - it should stop leaking at some point when the level in the reservoir drops a bit more.

Thanks. I didn’t know about that pressure relief skinny tube.  I’ll see what I can see from the outlet of that and the filler tube, but I’m planning to just leave it alone.  I asked my mechanic if he had filled it at annual (month and a half ago) and he did, so that might have precipitated the drips.  I cleaned it up today and will keep an eye on it.

Tradition…

The Y branch is threaded… a simple threaded plug seals the top…. The plug has a square top to use a wrench on…

easily accessed when the radio access panels are removed at annual…

Depending on what install you have with the 201 windshield… the access panels probably got left out…

and the tube with remote fill capability was added…

For it to leak…. It may have gotten overfilled recently…

I don’t think the traditional plug was very fluid tight…  it may even have a vent hole drilled in it…

See if there is any documented way… to know where the fill line is… then drain off the excess…

If leaking past the threads… there may be a procedure for using Teflon tape…. Use caution with using Teflon unless it is documented to be OK…. It can end up downstream causing bigger problems…

Let’s ask @M20Doc to stop by…

Go MS!

The fill line comes through the firewall into the engine compartment.  I’m not sure about the skinny vent line though, I’ll have to look.  My 201 windshield doesn’t have the access plates, so I’m really hoping I don’t need access!
