Does anyone have two 10 inch Dynon displays in their J model or later with the navigator positioned between the two ten inch displays? If so, I would be most appreciative of a photograph of it. Thank you

So that you all know, My friend Steve at S&T Avionics in Sister's Oregon did the install for me and bought the Dynon stuff via Northwest Avionics in Sisters as well, from Marc.  In my opinion no one is better than these two.  The Garmin and PS engineering was purchased through Layfette Avionics, who were great as well.  Lost around 35 lbs. off the front of the plane, and best of all, no vacuum pump!  This avionics upgrade was the best experience I've ever had working on airplanes, I can not say enough good things about these guys.

How long did the install take?  I've read that the Dynon system is a lot simpler than much of the legacy stuff, maybe not the G3X, though.  I'm curious!  If it could be a fly-out vacation/owner-assist style or not.  I lived in that area for a year or so and it is beautiful, so going out there for install might be fun.

It takes around 100 to 120 hrs..maybe shorter since he has all the CAD info for the panel.  The hold up is usually the powder coating of the panel.  The parts have to be in his possession prior to dropping the plane off.  I'd just call him with any questions, super guy and honest as the day is long.

Still kept the old analog clock and engine instruments?
So now are you without an autopilot while you wait for certification?
Is having the speeds placarded a requirement?

I kept the clock and the analog gauges because I think its a cool combination.  The placard was something that I wanted, not required.  As far as the autopilot goes, I had it pre wired for it.   I was hoping Dynon would be through with the cert by now, but the 737 max issue stalled it a bit with the Seattle FISDO.  Should be within the year now.  I love the setup, the spatial awareness is awesome..really happy.

What was the cost of install / services? What did you pay for the dynon?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Labor was around 10.5, small parts and powder coat and etching was around 3,  the Dynon stuff was around 20, the Garmin stuff was around 13, new style Elt, new O2 tank, Emag, engine harness, new plugs...all told, I think I put around 50k in it.

That’s awesome.

I’m installing a dual dynon in a Lance with the backup AI/adahrs, Avidyne 550, pma8000bt, the dynon EMS, and a Trio autopilot since the dynon wasn’t certified for the lance. The shop that had this wasted a year on it originally and had no clue how to get it done (really???)

Dynon is interesting since they create a network / hub and daisy chain a lot of their devices which include auto detection and pretty quick configuration. Each display gets a battery. The transponder is a rebadged TT22. Quiet as quiet could be. The noisiest thing is the Avidyne…lol. What happened to all the racket from all the gyros in the panel? Where is that heartwarming sound of the turn and ball indicator, combined with the flight director spin up humm, not to mention my trusty backup electric AI dance prior to caging?

The harness for the 550 only took a couple of hours since it connects into the dynon via arinc429 instead of a million inputs and outputs.

Absent the install of the trio servos and engine thermocouples, it should take me about a week total to complete all the harness work and config of the unit. Who knows? I May install one of these Dynons in my 252. I know…Don would say sacrilege.

Now I understand why shops love to charge flat fees for installs instead of hourly rates…

Looks like you are making a nice build.  My buddy did the Dynon in his 172 along with the IFD 550 and the Dynon radio as a backup.  Dynon's AP is certified for the 172 and works great.  I like the 550 with the Dynon, I am sure you will also.  Here is a picture of his install.

That's an Avidyne IFD540 in the both of these panels (the Lance and the 172) not a 550. Both great units though.

The 550 has a fourth rocker switch below the screen, the 540 has three. The extra switch is a dedicated SVS switch. https://www.avidyne.com/shop/fms-gps-nav-com/ifd550-premium-fms-gps-nav-com/

Oh...540 then.  I thought the Bigger Avidynes were 550's, my mistake.

550 and 540 are the same chassis, but the 550 adds more features
