I can’t speak to the AV30 but it was under an hour to install the TailBeacon. That install couldn’t be any easier.

I received a quote from an avionics shop to install an av-30c and tailbeacon ads-b @ 30-50 hours does this sound reasonable?

Have an A&P do the tailbeacon, not an avionics shop.

Are you doing the Tail Beacon X with diversity?  If so there is more involved, the AV30 and the Tail Beacon are wired together with separate power sources.

I understand the Tail beacon X requires a new data wire to be ran back to the tail from the AV30 in order to allow remote control of the transponder.   New power runs, remove old equipment, testing, etc, I can see how it's not a 4 hour job.

I am considering this set up for my plane in the future as it gives me a back up AI as well as many other features including displaying traffic from ADSB.  It's a very space efficient set up which is attractive for an older Mooney with a small panel.

I did an AV30c in my Citabria and it took about 4 hours for the AI.  DG/HSI took a couple hours max because I ran wires for both when doing th AI.  Lee.
