Derek Posted June 25, 2022 Report Posted June 25, 2022 (edited) What product is recommended to reattach placards on the panel that are peeling off? Regular super glue? Thanks! Edited June 25, 2022 by Derek Quote

Thanks! 3M industrial strength double sided adhesive foam tape. The foam thickness will compensate for any irregularities in the surface and the placard will stay on. 1 Quote
Pinecone Posted June 25, 2022 Report Posted June 25, 2022 If you REALLY want them to stay on, 3M 5200 Urethane mastic. It does take some time to cure. Use blue painters tape to hold them in position until it cures. Quote
carusoam Posted June 26, 2022 Report Posted June 26, 2022 Does it need to come off again, ever? Use caution with super glue… it can easily get everywhere…. Making things look messy for a long time… Test things… some glues can dissolve the surface you are trying to glue to… PP thoughts only, not an instrument panel guy… Best regards, -a- Quote

carusoam Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 Raising the temp of ABS plastic to 212°F is usually enough to reshape it… Keep this in mind if heating is the method intended to remove something from the ABS panels… PP thoughts only not a polymer chemist… Best regards, -a- Quote

You run a thin wire behind and cut it. Heat would be required to remove all the 5200. Quote
PT20J Posted June 27, 2022 Report Posted June 27, 2022 I use double sided carpet tape for such things. Sticks well but still possible to remove if need be. Quote

While I agree it’s severe overkill and is runny too so not good for this, but I used it a LOT on the boat and learned you could take a piece of .020 safety wire and use it to cut the 5200, use it to saw through the bond line. If you really feel the need to use a strong adhesive I believe fuel tank sealer (B2) to be much better largely because it’s not bright white and it’s no where near as runny as 5200. Quote
Pinecone Posted June 29, 2022 Report Posted June 29, 2022 5200 is also available in tan and black. Hmm, I never found it to be runny. Quote
