I never had swollen feet when I had DVTs. I had them a year before I actually came down with DVTs. The ultrasound procedure is pretty easy and doesn’t take much time to do. Might bring peace of mind to have it checked out. Might be worthwhile letting your doc know that you flew a long flight and get their input. For the MooneySpace community, Dan is one MooneySpacer who has seen me in my sexy compression socks. They probably are, but you would need a huge study to “prove” it. https://www.cochrane.org/CD004002/PVD_compression-stockings-preventing-deep-vein-thrombosis-dvt-airline-passengers https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6477662/ Quote

Even if most of them wouldn't have turned out to be significant, most doctors who find one will chase you down with very expensive things 1 Quote

Rjfanjet Posted June 15, 2022 Report Posted June 15, 2022 I've been wearing compression socks since my mid 40's. We can even use our uniform allotment to purchase them. Commercial pilot for the last 23 years. Also wear them when riding the motorcycles, but I do a lot of distance riding. 3 Quote
Shadrach Posted June 16, 2022 Report Posted June 16, 2022 My biggest takeaway from this thread is that many people think it’s perfectly acceptable to take their shoes of on a commercial flight. I very much prefer that people leave them on. I don’t particularly like the smell of Fritos when the smell is coming from actual Fritos. When it’s coming from a row neighbor’s footwell, it’s even less appealing. 2 Quote
Pinecone Posted June 17, 2022 Report Posted June 17, 2022 While I understand your point, when you are talking about flights in the 6 - 17.5 hour (YES, I have been on a 17.5 hour flight, several times), it makes sense to take off your shoes. I did wash and put on clean socks before the trip though. Quote

One has to accept that one is in public on a flight. That should perhaps mean striving to be extra tolerant and also extra considerate. I think a good portion of travelers get this. I just happen to encounter quite a few that do not. I once woke up to what I thought was the smell of salt & vinegar potato chips only to discover that the dude behind me had wedged his bare foot between the sidewall and my seat back. 1 1 Quote
