Hi Alan,

Echoing Paul’s comment above, the best way is to have the three pieces (four, if you want the whiskey compass worked on) sent to someone like AeroComfort.  Someone on here had this done recently, and the result was gorgeous.  The price they paid was also very fair in line with the work done.  Hector and his company in San Antonio do fabulous work in general.

I’m heading back to San Marcos coincidentally next weekend to continue work on my own aircraft, and have asked Hector to do a new carpet kit and partial interior for me while I’m waiting for my engine to show up.  He did some headrests for me several years ago, and I vowed I’d go back.

Use caution going to Hector…

The plane starts looking brand new all over again…

It usually starts with getting the yokes recovered…

Then the seats…

It doesn’t get any better than that…

:)

Got any pics of what you are trying to fix?

Best regards,

Aero Comfort https://aerocomfort.com/contact/ reburbishes/recovers them better than new. They can be mailed to them very easily.

Not difficult to remove and no tools required. If your having difficulty, get help from your maintainer to learn how. Only takes a couple minutes.

See Paul’s response above…

I added the bold to his words…

And more details from KB4 below…

Expect that it takes time to get all the various responses to any one question…

Sometimes they come in… in bits and pieces…

Go MS!

If compass isn’t in the GS, Nothing too complicated, it’s just wedged in there real GOOD.  I mean good. Look thru windscreen for a screws on both left and right side.  Possibly some on front of GS attaching to panel, probably some hook and loop tape in there too.

On right side you may have a panel light connector that will need be disconnected.  As the GS is lifted you will have access to plug b4 pulling out GS.

Actually NO....Both answers are giving @Alan Maurer bum advice.  And really - "If your having difficulty, get help from your maintainer to learn how." - You reference that in bold as good advice on MS? - actually that could be the "Non-answer" to every plane maintenance/repair question here.

First - did you read the question ?- He said Ovation : M20R glareshield removal

Second - you are validating answers from J and K owners that have one piece glareshields (which the R does not - it is multiple piece with the compass installed in the shield- tip look at the pic from @ziggysanchez).

Third - The M20R glareshield is four (4) pieces with 10 screws - LH shield, RH shield, center cover and compass assembly.  It requires tools - very short screwdrivers because of limited clearance near the windscreen.  It has separate wiring for glare shield lights and compass internal lighting.  It is not "just wedged in real good" and it takes more than "just a couple minutes"

It is not especially hard but does require care.  Don't let the small screws roll forward falling behind the instrument panel.  The Parts Manual (which is online) is a great reference and aid.

Nice work 1980!

What took so long for you to answer?

Bum question…
what part of MS haven’t I read?

Some even multiple times…

Like A64, you are going to find…

I keep the conversation rolling during the lulls…

Sometimes there is less meat to work with…

I haven’t found insulting the input of others to be my best motivational tool…

in this case… I haven’t taken the glare shield out of my O yet…

lots of imperfect advice available on MS…

if it was all qualified… the cost would be much higher…  and fewer people would participate in it…

kind of a catch 22 sorta thing…

Challenges of crowd sourcing for the Mooney crowd?

:)

Happy Saturday,

Take a look at how time critical this thread isn’t…

The OP hasn’t stopped back to check the answers… or update the question…

could be celebrating a holiday this week…

It has been pointed out to me that the mid/later 2000's Ovations went back to the simple (cheaper like the J and K) one piece glareshield without the compass.  As I think about it I bet it was a cost saving move after they came out of bankruptcy in the early 2000's.

So your advice to this OP is correct (although the pic from @ziggysanchez does not match the plane in question)

I stand corrected

Anyone know if the guys at aero comfort can make the glare shield a bit less droopy/sturdier in an E model? Thanks. Btw sorry to thread jack.

Aero comfort has the skills and ability to completely refurbish the interior of your plane based on what you have… even if it is only a single sheet metal screw… :)

If your M20E got the 201 windshield… a decent glare shield to match would be fantastic…

If you have the near vertical original windshield…the glare shield is a small vinyl pillow, snapped in place…

Start with pics of what you have…

They probably have pics of what you want…

It does have the 201 cowling/windscreen but the glare shield is that one piece shield that just clips in

Something to discuss when having a new one built….
