whiskytango Posted January 19, 2022 Report Posted January 19, 2022 My 231K just had a GFC500 and 2 G5s installed. On the first flight after the work was completed the gear won’t retract, the Gear Down and Gear Unsafe annuciator lights are lit and the gear warning beeping sound is on continually. Any ideas on what the mechanics should be looking for? The manual gear operator handle is in the proper position and no breakers are tripped. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ArtVandelay Posted January 19, 2022 Report Posted January 19, 2022 There’s no reason to touch the gear warning system.I would try pulling the CB for the gear warning, then the CB for GFC 500 and then the G5s CBs separately and see if what happens is what you expect.

The system won't retract the gear unless a certain airspeed is met. During annual you have to blow into the pitot tube to get it to retract.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yes, if they connected the airspeed switch to the static line instead of the pitot line it would never enable the gear to retract. Not sure it'd turn both annunciator lights and the warning horn on, but it definitely wouldn't let the gear up. They may have fubar'ed more than the static plumbing. 1

Ive noticed that the first flight after sitting for mx this can happen and hitting the override gets it going and by then it’s good. Could also happen after messing with pitot plumbing.

I do one with the tube, one with bypass, and a manual retract to test all the systems. Only takes 15 minutes or so.
whiskytango Posted January 20, 2022 Author Report Posted January 20, 2022 Update: The pitot and static tubes to the gear safety switch were reversed by the mechanic when he had the airspeed indicator overhauled during the avionics work. He was honest enough to admit that he did not mark which tube went where, and said that the switch was not marked. He switched the tube connections and the gear operates normally. With that out of the way I can say that the GFC500 is amazing! It holds heading, course and altitude far better than any other autopilot I have ever owned. Operation becomes intuitive after 15 minutes use. Thanks to all who responded! 2
