I have an annoyong issue I'm trying to figure out right now. The tail pipe on the left side hits the gear door when extended. Anyone know how to adjust it? First image is the right side, which is good.

To my untrained eye, there looks to be a major asymmetry of the two doors.  Note how the right door front edge is angeled inward whereas the right side is significantly angled outward; even accounting for some parallax.

I'm with PT20J, I'd check as something looks like it's out of adjustment.

The gear was rigged during annual. The pipes are clearly not parallel. The left one turns in quite a bit.

Maybe, but do you not see the door asymmetry?  I'm not saying it's wrong, it just seems odd.

I orginally thought the same thing but then found this thread. The doors on this thread look identical to mine.

The tailpipe connection should have three bolts.  Loosen and utilize the adjustment range provided, both rotation and direction. Make sure the hangers are in good condition and the gear door is free from excessive play. Your canopy cover pulls on it which might bring it closer if it has extra movement.

I agree that the canopy cover strap needs to slide aft of the door and pipes, then slip under the aft end of the gear door. That's where I put my canopy cover strap to not push on the doors any.

If the nose gear retraction height is wrong, the length of the nose door rods also gets adjusted for proper closing, the length affects door position and angle when the gear is down.  The manual lacks specifics on how to adjust things, there is a bit of trial and error involved.

Both the left and right eccentrics must be set to the same position, moving them affects down lock tension, so it must be rechecked after and adjustment.  Don’t adjust the gear too high with a worn nose tire, when the tire is replaced later it may contact the wheel well upper skin.

Door asymmetry is normal at least on the vintage birds.

I have the opposite problem and we are planning to tackle it next week. My pilot side gear door has been adjusted so that it’s slightly open (1/3” at most) when it should be closed. I have made several attempts to adjust it so that it’s flush against the belly. When adjusted to close completely, the rim of the gear door catches one one of the tire grooves. I think it was adjusted this way when I had the truss replaced about a decade years ago.  it’s clear that the The wheel should be slightly higher in the well It’s one of those things that bugs me but is easy to ignore because I only see it during the gear swing.  The maintenance manual isn’t specific about the procedure which has put it in the let’s leave well enough alone category. 

Any tips or advice you might have would be most welcome.

Doors aside…..

My exhaust pipes look better centered in their cowl openings…

+1 on checking their alignment…  and any leaks that any re-alignment may cause….

PP thoughts only…
