It is the rear main bearing! the crank looks fine.

Technically, each pic is typically rotated 90° CCW...

The elf, grabs the pic, saves it in the camera roll, edits it, rotates it 90° CW, saves it, and reposts it...

takes less than a minute each...

Another thing that has seemed to work is if you upload and it is rotated, then just crop the pic slightly. You don't have to change it much, not even change it from a portrait to landscape, just shave off a tiny bit, save it, and re-upload.

It was the rear, so it would be the left or right. 

I don't remember, but the case shop found a crack in one of the rear bearing saddles. I assume that's what caused this. It upped the case overhaul by $300

Most Mooney engine cases are split with two sides...
 

Yet, OHs are done as top ends vs. bottom ends...

So... misnomer of the day... a Top OH only removes the cylinders, off the sides...

The only thing on the top of the engine... is the fuel injection system, or air intake system...

The front bearing is installed top and bottom. The center and rear are placed in the case halves. You have to hold the front on the crank when you lower the crank into the case.

Yup, btdt, but this was an O-320 out of a C172, so no fuel pump, and the vac had been deleted, so it was a bit easier.   It did have two mags, though.  ;)

Very cool to see the progress.

Rich, is there any room in the rules for the New-ish high temp paints of out of the ordinary colors?
 

A good forever-plane probably deserves to match the case with The exterior of the plane...

You are doing a proper job for sure and wasn’t suggesting you weren’t! To the less knowledgeable person an unpainted engine from a top engine builder would have less value that’s a nicely painted engine from a lesser builder. Or they just trick the person with a fresh paint job. You appear to have both the paint and the builder taken care of in top fashion, nice work!
