Let's talk about baggage area and back seat organization

I can't seem to keep my baggage area, hat rack, and back seat organized.  Between my flight bag, headset bags, small tackle boxes with batteries, charging cables, portable urinals, puke bags, dramamine, tissues, extra seat cushions, O2/canulas, a blanket, tools, oil, funnel, gatts jar, dip stick, pitot cover, gust locks, tie downs, cleaning supplies, etc ... well, it gets a little cluttered.

Show me pictures of how you keep your plane organized!   :-)

Empty it and start from scratch!

Ask yourself “have I used it in the last 2 years?”

I have the same issue. Some will tell you just to carry a CC and call the guy. But from my experience,  when you ARE the guy,  you’ll need the stuff you just removed.

Maybe you are a hoarder (lol), but........in the Ovation, I used a couple of clear colored containers (with lids) from WallyMart ( or equivalent). In the C model, I use only one container.

Those helped me keep my hoarded items organized and all stayed fairly neat looking too.

Yes, as suggested, evaluate what you really want to keep and adjust accordingly.

If you choose this method, you’ll be able to size your new container(s) accordingly.

It’s a switch for the baggage light that’s mounted next to it in the aft Baggage panel.

This lives in the Rubbermaid box beside it, almost the exact length of my baggage space. A quart of oil sits in front of it.

The hat rack carries tie down ropes, travel chocks, fuel dipstick & sample cups, small umbrella, first aid kit and spare headsets. My flight bag sits on the right back seat with the shoulder strap around the seatback, but with the front flap zipped up on both sides and open across the top.

When I travel, the tow bar is shoved between baggage and back seat and the canopy cover bag goes on top of everything else.

Sectionals, plates, beverages, snacks, lunch--all live between the front seats or the floor just in front of that, under the quadrant. Sorry, J-bar fans . . . . .

I carry a small mechanics tool bag with essential tools and a few parts such as a couple of spare spark plug. In the bag are also travel chocks, fuel dip stick, fuel sampler. I store this tool bag and my travel cover in the hat rack. Also in the hat rack are a few microfiber towels, a can of pledge to clean the windscreen, and a quart of oil. In the luggage area I carry the tow bar and whatever luggage I’m carrying for overnight travel. Flight bag and spare headset in rear seat.

It's hard to see, but the soft zippered case with wrenches / pliers / screwdriver set also has sandpaper, assorted screws & washers and some safety wire. Note the Plexxus and Tri Flow with rags, plus mechanic's gloves, and a small ratchet set.

Ya gotta be ready! There's a Leatherman tool in there, too, and a pocket knife in my pants pocket and the pocket on front of the left seat. Yes, I was a durned good Boy Scout before they went all soft and fluffy.

These really helped. Before I had a seat bag that stayed in the back seat but it took up one of the seat positions. This has helped a lot.

I don’t carry many tools. I have a hangar full of tools and always seem to need another, so I figure it’s unlikely that whatever tools I might lug around would get the job done.

Same with parts. If I knew enough to know what was going to fail, I’d replace it before I flew.

I ditched the flight bag for Foreflight on my iPad and iPhone.

I do tote around oil, chocks, tiedowns, cowl plugs, pitot cover, canopy cover, GATS jar, plastic polish and microfiber cloths, and a tire pressure gauge. 

Up front I have a pulse oximeter and flashlight within reach.

And I have backpack with survival gear - just in case.

Maybe Santa will bring you a Crystal Ball for Christmas......... I got mine off eBay, no manual so I don’t know to use it

I never buy anything from Sporty’s if I can help it but they sell this nice little caddy bag that holds everything that won’t fit in my flight bag.  Then I have a 12” canvas tool bag for oil a few tools and whatever else for longer trips.  Then a small duffle with survival gear for even longer trips.
