My landing light switch has always sometimes taken a few switches for it to decide to stay on.  Today it didnt want to stay on at all.

Is that CB as well as a switch?

Anybody know the part number?  I have an annual coming up.  I think Ill just replace it.

It’s a circuit breaker switch, I think a 10 amp. The glide slope and marker beacon are (I think) 5 amp. They are marked on the end very small.

Try changing to an LED landing light.  If it still trips, you have a short.

it is LED.  I did have the lower cowl off replacing the starter.  Ill check the wire.  I was getting a thunk in the headset when flipping the switch.  Should of thought of that.  Day VFR flight though.

It is the most worn CB switch in the panel...

Part of the wear comes from its actuation, the other part comes from the spark as the switch closes...

Now that an LED is being used, the spark won’t be as strong...  see how many hours have been collected by the switch...

My M20C would flip the switch on its own....

  • Switch was worn...
  • the GE bulb used enough electricity to warm the CB failure mechanism...
  • Heater kept that part of the instrument panel warm...
  • The panel sag would contact the switch and aid in the turning off action...
  • I used the light often for recog near the traffic pattern...
  • Looks like your panel might be really close to the switch in the on position...

I replaced the CB switch with one from Aircraft Spruce... and some new rubber panel mount studs.... too.

Best regards,

There may be a relay in the circuit. I don't turn my LL off once I went to LED.

There shouldn't be a relay if the switch was a CB, right?  Would kind of defeat the purpose of having a CB switch...

Off topic, but wouldn't it be nice if we could replace our electrical with something like the Vertical Power products?  That would solve a lot of the rat's nest behind the panel...
