Yes, they can be appealed. But appeals aren't a re-evaluation of the evidence to see if the jury got it wrong. They are generally limited to legal errors - the judge improperly admitted or rejected evidence, the judge didn't instruct the jury in the legal standards to be applied, stuff like that.
