I'm looking at a m20j 1986.  It is a sandal 3308.  Just wondering if anyone ha experience with this unit. Thoughts, experiences.  Should I take it out. Remove it or augment it. Or will it work well for Ifr.  It is synced to a Garmin.  430.

I had a SN3500 in my last mooney.  I liked it better than the Aspen in my current mooney (the HSI portion).  I think the 3308 is fairly similar to the 3500.

the 3500 is a solid IFR HSI/display.  I wouldn't replace that unless I had a really compelling reason to do so.

I don't know if this helps or not.

I had a sandel installed in my M20C. I liked it. It interacted well with the Garmin 430 and the stec autopilot.

I decided to swap it for an Aspen mainly because the Aspen provides more functionality, for example Synthetic vision, AI, Etc.

In addition the need to keep an eye on the lamp and change it at every annual was a real pain.

But overall the unit was reliable, worked well and was a nice bridge solution from a mechanical HSI to a digital one, like the Aspen.

My plane has a 3308 coupled to 430/autopilot like yours. I like all the info in one place. Easy to fly IFR with. The bulb is not that hard to change.

There is a lot more stuff I'd rather upgrade first!
