Yetti Posted May 28, 2016 Report Posted May 28, 2016 What weather? The hay bale thing was along a road... not in a field with cows. They are pretty heavy 1
N5756v Posted June 3, 2016 Author Report Posted June 3, 2016 Well I tried to go on Tuesday made it to Lawton Oklahoma and had to land . I did not think I would be able to finish the trip until Saturday so I hired a ifr pilot to finish the trip and got the plane safely there on wed afternoon. Don figures he should be done with it in about ten days with the squawk list I gave him . I think there are just some light oil leaks to fix and I might wind up with new suspension punks all the way around , the pucks are dated 2003 . Also getting a new probe for my engine monitoring system . I am thinking it should be a pretty worry free annual because the plane went thru a pre buy and annual inspection last year down at south west aviation last year , the plane only flew about 70 hrs last year while I was getting my license. Figures crossed Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
N5756v Posted June 8, 2016 Author Report Posted June 8, 2016 Heard from Don today Small update Exhaust had a crack , he sent it off to be welded New rubber pucks on the mains Starter drive needs rebuilt , found a piece of metal in the screen from the starter drive , I am sure that will make sense to some of you . He thinks it was to tight. He offered to explain it but I told him I could wait until I was there to understand . Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
jlunseth Posted June 13, 2016 Report Posted June 13, 2016 The first thing I would do if I were you, is get my aircraft on a winter cycle for annual. Around here, it is tough to fly in the winter anyway, and I don't want the plane in the shop when the flying weather is good, too depressing. It is weird. I can not fly the plane for ten days or two weeks and it doesn't bother me in the least, but if I can't fly it because it is in the shop for that length of time, I get depressed. 4

I was one of those guys who is on the 13 month cycle. I am currently going from May to June. I agree, my plane has been in annual for 2 weeks and I am really missing out on some great flying weather. The only caveat on the winter annual is whether or not you can get the plane to the shop. My annuals are done at an airport without an approach and I remember a few years where it was tough getting the plane over on time. 2

I couldn't agree more... but living in Texas I'm gonna send mine in for Annual in August. It's currently due in October. But the worst flying weather in TX is August, right after OSH it's going in the shop. 2

Working on a better annual schedule for sure even if I have to do it early next year

All the oil leaks are fixed. The o2 leak was from the fitting not being tourqued I am assuming from last year when the bottle was tested. New CDT probe , the gauge was not working at all. A felt pad on a wheel Bering . New window vent seal . New nose wheel and tube and one new main tire .New shock discs on mains . Starter drive did not need rebuilt luckily , just removed and inspected . New gear horn . New rodent boots . Parking brake valve rebuilt . Re rigged the NLG and RH main gear doors . Repaired tailpipe . The oil analysis pretty much said the plane is not getting flown enouph . The term they used was possible corrosion if aircraft not flown regularly .So now that I have my PPL that won't be the case on the next analysis . I never could get the guy to make the time to fly it regularly on his own if I was not there to make him , he was my instructor and it was hard to drive 45 min to go up in the mooney instead of taking a lesson if that makes any sense . If I had to guess the longest it went without being flown was 2 months maybe 2.5 months It is my first annual and over all I think it was pretty painless . Dons shop is first rate and it will be going back next year . Even talked him out of a couple of shirts for me and the wife . Well I tried to take a picture of the shirt but the sight said there was a problom with the upload . Any help on uploading picture would be appreciated .

Yetti Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 usually pictures are too big from the cameras. If you are PC user. Open in Paint. Click Resize, put 25 in where it says 100. Save. Then drag and drop 1
Cruiser Posted July 3, 2016 Report Posted July 3, 2016 right click on the image file, from the pop up menu select "send to" in the expanded menu select "mail recipient" the attach files window opens allowing you to resize the file (I usually choose medium) The image will be added to the attachment line on your email window. Simply copy and paste that file into an appropriate folder and it will automatically be sized for almost any webpage. 1

I cannot quantify improvements but I know that I was disappointed with the speed of this E compared to one I owned for 11 years long ago. That plane had none of the speed mods this one has. I added the PFS and now see very satisfactory performance cruising at 155 ktas or slightly higher. 1
