  1. Just picked up the aircraft after the installation of the JPI 830. I can only say it's....OK. The MP and Tach have a large enough display area and the CHT and EGT's do as well. But the rest of the information takes reading glasses and I have GREAT Vision! I noticed the oil temp reading was about 25°F difference from the factor gauge as compared to the JPI (higher). Shop told me the probes are at different pickup points on the engine creating the D/T. Any opinions on that? Rick
  2. This is going to be a questionable response but it WORKS. Go Jo hand cleaner mixed with soft scrub. This combination deep cleans and polishes better that ANTYHING I have ever seen. Removes bugs, oxidation and leaves a luster. Rick
  3. Looking for opinions..... Just pulled the trigger on a JPI 830. Was thinking just to the left of the 530 in a portrait mode. Looking at panel pictures on the web I see a lot of folks go with that position but in a landscape configuration. Are there any advantages of one over the other??? Thanks in advance..... Rick
  4. They are a PITA to remove and replace. Take the seats out and get comfortable. Pump in cold air! Just keep telling yourself, THIS IS POSSIBLE....! Rick
  5. Flew today and noticed the Vac Warn, 1 amp breaker tripped. Would not reset. Started the standby pump and can hear it coming on. Any ideas to why the breaker is tripped. What device or devices are in this circuit? Weak breaker????? Why would the Vac Warn breaker trip when the Standby Vac system is NOT in use? BTW....I have solid Vac on the system with the engine driven pump....all good. Thanks in advance for any advice! Rick 377JF
  6. I sent it To Bevans. Spoke with Tom and he took me through their repair process. Sounds like good people to work with! We'll see soon!!! Thanks everyone! Rick
  7. Any recommendations on getting a KX 155 serviced. I think its the display but don't know for sure. Looks like $2,250 is the going rate to change the display. I'm in the Southeast and looking for the closest most reputable service center. Thanks Rick
  8. Thank you! I would have NEVER looked there! Rick
  9. Hello All.... Looking for a part # and location of the Airspeed safety interlock. I cannot find it anywhere in the Parts Manual. Just recently in a Gear Retraction test we were able to raise the gear without flowing Air in the Pitot Tube. Any information or guidance is always appreciated! M20J MSE 1992 Rick
  10. Been noticing some oil drops bleeding from the cowling.... Not much, but was never there in the past. Just a heads up, be sure to pay attention to the Oil return lines when you are looking over your engine. On my Cylinder #2 the baffle was chaffing against the tube and was close eroding through. The other tubes were fine but the rubber tube connectors had been tightened so may times the rubber was bottomed out. All creating minor leakage. New tubes, connectors and clamps are on the way. Rick
  11. Sorry for the delay. If you need more info, PM me. Rick
  12. I apply backpressure at ~65K. From there, I let the plane fly itself off the runway. Obviously the trim needs to be set correctly. With Three "Full Size" passengers and half tanks she breaks ground at 70-75K and quickly accelerates to 90K plus for initial climb. I've used this method for every airplane flown. Not a lot, but enough. Rick
  13. Just an FYI. I used a CNC Router to cut out a few pair. I found using Optical Quality Lexan made a huge difference in the clarity. Yes... it was about 50% more expensive but worth it. I also oversized each visor by a full 1" around the entire perimeter. Dubro (RC Plane Stuff) wire mounts were used to secure the visors to the existing mounts. The material edges after cutting were sanded with 220 Grit Wet sandpaper then Flame polished clear. Came out GREAT! Rick
  14. All I can say is my Engine ran cooler with the 100W Plus over the Multi-grade oil...... Been using the 100W Plus for 5 years plus. Rick
  15. Yes. With a M20C. Send me a message with your contact number and I will provide the details. Too much to describe. Rick
  16. Unfortunately it's not Mooney's business model. And respectfully speaking, I'd bet no one you mentioned would go along with your plan. I do fully agree with a one stop shop for factory refurbishments. Like you mentioned, "not to build new planes," but definitely keep old birds in the air through factory refurbishments and outstanding customer support! Rick
  17. Was this honestly a surprise to anyone on the site? Would any of you step up and invest in Mooney? Personally, I wouldn't with their present business model. Said it before and will again...too many people hours to build this ship. Rick
  18. Correct......Heavy controls! Love them. Like the Autopilot even better! Rick
  19. This is a great conversation. Pretty deep! I have an Engineering background, mostly is thermal so I do not claim to know anything about aeronautical engineering. But....I think there ideas out there left to prove wrong! The conversation regarding the cowl flaps is a good one. The problem to solve is obviously removing the heat for the engine, and to do that one must allow the static pressure built by thrust generated by the prop over the cylinder fins and reduce the D/P by opening up the cowl flaps....right? Open them up and let the air flow...pretty simple? Right? So why have a mechanical mechanism (cowl flap) that opens. Seems to me, the creation of a cowl flap that remained closed with an exit in the rear integrating a rounded louver system would create a pressure drop (using air flow) and literally suck the hot air out of the cowl. I'm sure this has been considered...right? Rick
  20. Tom, Is that an option in the Flight Aware utility, Firmware of the GDL 88, or in the Garmin 530W? I've never heard of this before....Thanks Rick
  21. Flight Aware is the most inconsistent utility I've seen. At least for me...... I've taken several flights with "Flight Following" that was never captured by Flight Aware. I am assuming with ADSB the data tags should be automatic, or the controller should have the N number in front of them to type it into the system. This system has a LONG way to go! I've also had several flights in which a Ghost aircraft was damm near on top of me. I have the GDL88 coupled to the 530. When I called Garmin I was told it was data packets from a previous aircraft on the same route that was never deleted from the system. Make sense..... Just not a complete accurate solution.... Rick
  22. Although my bird has speed brakes I try never to use them if not necessary. I believe they are a great addition when descending from altitude with the MP at a higher than normal setting when making a decent. At a 2 mile final, I want a Manageable Balance Aircraft....meaning Trimmed and at Gear Extension Speed. From 2 to 1 miles, gear extension and first position flaps. less than a mile, full flaps if desired. I don't think there is a magic number (distance from touchdown) it's all a personal preference. I personally do not want to slow down AT ALL..... until needed. They sequence in how you setup to land is the most important, not the distance from landing. The more experience you gain the tighter the sequence. Just my thoughts... Rick
  23. I think If Mooney would design a Composite Aircraft (J Model) wrapped around a tube steel cage they would have one hell of an offering. I also believe it would bring the labor hours down, allowing for a better price point in category. Obviously, they need to KEEP what works, i.e. the profile, the articulating tail...etc. Throw a BRS in the offering as an option and just maybe they could compete with the outfit up north! Just think of the speed they could get with a smooth skin and Mooney aerodynamics. Get that price under 500K with a 220 Knot cruise and that would be an offering!!! I know......Dreaming! Rick
  24. Remove the rear fuselage inspection hatch and look for play in the Elevator bell-crank linkage that takes the single push/pull tube to a double output. I personally would not attempt to "bend" aluminum to find a sweet spot. Something else is wrong. I recently replaced a worn out bell-crank which included a new bushing. The plane has NEVER held pitch so well since the change........ Rick
  25. Rick Eleew is fine....flew today! Thanks for asking. Sorry to hear about this!
