I installed them in my 69F.  They are nice that we can move around in them.  The only problem that I have is that I continually knock the reel cover off.    They were fairly easy to install, note under supervision of an A&P.

We just put them in our 67F last week.  It is a tight fit to get the clamp around the bar.  I understand it may be tighter on some planes than on others.  We did it while the windows were being swapped out which made it easier to slip the clamp around the bar.

Everybody is happy with them I assume.

Also, am I correct that the entire system is $319 per seat complete? Seems pretty reasonable to me.

How much time should I expect an A&P to take to install?

I put them in our 1978 M20J and they work fine.  It took a little effort, but overall, not too bad.  Our mechanic inspected and signed off before we reinstalled the interior.  It probably took 4 hours total.  Lee

Pre J airframes also require a hardware small parts kit which is about $35 extra. You will have to trim the plastic around the mounting bracket. The passenger side is much quicker than the pilot side.  I would say 2-3 hours for both sides. If you remove the panels and work the clamp around the bar, the A&P will only be there 20 minutes or so.

Has anybody installed the inertial reel system from Alpha Aviation? I'd like to know how you like it, any shortfalls and whether it was self installed or through an A&P

I bought them at Oshkosh, but have yet to install them. I kept thinking that I would put them in when I do my panel, but that is going slower than I thought, so, I'm thinking of just having them done over at Top Gun and be done with it. I'll definately share here.

I installed them on the front seats of my F by myself.  Once I realized that I needed to remove the seats to get to the attachment points there, no real problems.  I also have found that the plastic cover keeps falling off, so I just left it off.  I'm happy with them in flight, haven't crash-tested them (and hope not to).

Replacing seat belts is legal owner maintenance, too.

We installed the Alpha inertia reels in our 1977 M20J. A huge improvement over the old fixed shoulder harness. You will like it.

OK, Mike, now that your seats, pedal extentions, cushions, and belts are sorted out...get that '83 J fired up and come to the Mooney luncheon in Punta Gorda tomorrow. The WX should be good and it ain't that hard to find.

I just wanted to follow up on this thread. Several weeks ago the new seat belts were installed and is a marked improvement over the factory "big buckle". The inertial reel shoulder belt and automobile style click-in buckle surpassed expectations. I highly recommend them.
