Very saddened by this. Prayers to the family.

Do we know who it is? There was someone on here from Montreal asking for info about Philadelphia. Wanted to stop and spend some time in Philly with his child on the way back to Montreal.

Yes he was a poster here. I (and Erik) knew the pilot and his son personnally. According to local news the pilot is deceased. This is kind of hard to take. He was returning from a trip to Florida. I did chat with him while he was down there. I was supposed to go down there too but cancelled due to weather.

He did participate in the Mooney Caravan. Prayers and condoleances to family.

That is poorly translated and full of speculation that serves no real purpose. Does anyone know the distance of the crash site from the airport? Was he on approach?

I am very sad over this loss. I'm relieved his boy survived, but can only imagine what a mark this will leave on him...

Was he instrument rated? His posts are a little ambiguous.

His last post in "Going to Florida over Christmas" certainly leaves some doubt as to whether he was instrument rated. He described briefly encountering IMC conditions in a way that lead me to believe he was not instrument rated. Maybe I'm reading to much into it.

That's the comment that makes me wonder... but it will all come out. There but  the grace of God... be careful out there.

I worked Houman's flight inbound to Lachute, where he cleared customs, then saw his target on my radar again as he approached Mascouche. I was hoping the timing was just a coincidence but got the bad news this morning.

To answer some questions, Mascouche (CSK3) is one of the busiest non-towered field in Canada and is planned to shut down in November 2016. The aircraft was found next to a highway that parrallels the runway about 1/2 mile to the south. At the time of the crash, at Mirabel airport, 15 nm west, the weather was VMC and winds were from the NE at around 10kts.

So sorry for Houman's loss, didn't know him much, but he was a passionate. Salut Houman et repose en paix!

I flew into YYZ last night in an A-319. Definitely one of the most challenging approaches in quite a while. Moderate ice and freezing rain with gusts to 40 knots. Nasty storm!

I was wondering about the weather. It has been really lousy here over the past week and I cancelled a trip over the weekend to WNY because of the conditions. Hopefully the facts will be uncovered. I feel for his son.

I know he was working on his IFR rating but have no clue how far he was in his training. The French article quotes someone who did fly with him (we could assume as his instructor) and believes he did something wrong on an attempted overshoot. I do land there from time to time and find it challenging with a crosswind on daytime. The runway is narrow and short. It was at night. We'll have to wait for the safety board report.
