My last plane I was looking at ended after a Pre buy at Don Maxells this last week. So now I'm back on the hunt. It seems priced low and was just wondering what you guys see that might make the price sit so low. It had a gear up in 96, they replaced the engine then another gear up in 98 and I'm guessing they just iran'ed it. I haven't found out much else. The broker has yet to call me back.

It looks like the paint is a little faded but the interior is in good condition and the panel has nothing spectacular but as good or better than most planes I have flown with. I'm guessing the IO-369 was a typo? Isn't the IO-390 the next biggest engine?

Any opinions or emails I would be glad to hear. The plane is in Huntington Beach, not real close to a MSC other than San Diego. Does anyone know of a good shop to have a pre buy done at in the LA area?

Thanks again for any info

Sorry Anthony it has bladders..... Don't hate me :)

Looks like it has had two gear up issues.

Other than that, don't know.  I always get extra attention paid to corrosion when a plane comes out of coastal California (or any other coastal area).

That is a lot of aircraft for that price.  Wow.  Before long, people will be paying us to take a 252 off of their hands.

It's in LA and I'm in central Oregon. South West has flights for $80 and I have family to stay with so if the broker info comes back good I will for see me going to look at it. And I'm looking to install a GDL 84 to cover the 2020.

Have the broker send photos and logs to your email account. Get a good feel for the work done post prop strike.

Understand what the included annual is. Come to an agreement that your PPI and his annual can be done at a particular place that you are both happy with.

PPI place is different than his traditional place for annuals...

One question though, why does a few Mooneys have the front shock but most do not?

They were originally designed with them. Over time it was felt they served no useful benefit and owners could have them removed through a service bulletin.

I removed mine because the LASAR replacement truss had no provision for it. I kind of wish it was still there. I don't notice the lack of dampening much from the cockpit. Where it is noticeable is when towing (or even taxiing) the plane over inconsistent surfaces, i.e. transitioning from grass to pavement and vice versa.

C,

The kns80 is long in the tooth compared to IFR GPSs, and 2020 is coming...

How far away is it for a fly by/ look-see?

Can this be explained in a little more detain? Not sure what the 2020 means!!

Do a Google search on ADS-B.  It is a new traffic and ATC control capability that will be required starting in 2020 for all aircraft that fly where transponders are currently required (short description).

It certainly looks like a good deal.  Corrosion , both air-frame and inside the engine,  would be a major concern for me.  I'd insist on a very thorough exam and an oil analysis on the pre-purchase inspection . (Some places have a flexible fiberoptic scope that they can insert down the oil dipstick.)    If that checked out OK....I would certainly consider it.

I'm not familiar with recent market prices, but it seems like it's priced kinda low....make sure you understand why ?

Good luck !   mike

Thanks for the info on the shock. I am very skeptical of the plane because of the price. I've already learned the owners can tell you anything, and it's even worse if they don't know and are under the assumption the plane is turn key. Hopefully they will let me take it to an MSC for the pre buy. Top Gun or LASAR would be closest to me but Crownair is closer for them. But those three would work for me.

Thanks again for everyone's input.

Well I would say this shows why the price is low. It looks like the pucks are shot, rivet problems in pic 40, and 41, and the fuel drains are well corroded. :( The paint is toast and looks like some other issues

am I being way to critical?

Looks like it's had a hard life I guess what's more important is what's under the skin but the pics look pretty rough but then mine was really nice to look at and had lots of things needed fixed.
