I did. It happened while I was positioning the the clamp. My glass is 49 yrs old, it has yet to craze, but I imagine t may not have the flexibility it once did. I don't remember exactly what bumped the screw shaft, but it took very little to cause the crack.

My comment was not for you.  For those soon to attempt it. On the passenger side I was twisting it past the window.  I also did not realize they were jam nuts, so I took the first one off thinking I was cross threading.   Then I put is on with the flat ratchet and had to figure out how to get the ratchet out.   You are pretty good at it after the second one is done.

I've tack welded the nut to the back side of the clamp, then no wrench is needed. Also you can use a Dremel tool to remove a small bit of the window to clear the clamp.
