Simple Modifications

Hi my family is currently in the home stretch of buying our 1969 M20F. I was wondering what are some simple mods wether they are appearance or performance that are simple and low cost to improve the plane??

Led interior map lights

Weather stripping

Carpet and interior painting

High flow air filter

If it has been done already..... Reversal of brake calipers so they don't hang out in the wind

the cowl closure is the most bang for the buck.

 

A one piece windshield makes the plane look better, but I wouldn't do it until you need one.

I'm 17, got my PPL in January and now have 100 hours. Me and my family decided to get a plane to avoid the costs of renting and start building hours. In the fall I will be going to Embry Riddle to finish my training. We decided to get this Mooney M20F over a Arrow or Cherokee. I will leave the link to the plane below.

they're might be a few things you could do, but not much is going to make a whole lot of difference.  Low cost is also relative.  Honestly, the cheapest way to get the mods you want is for the airplane to already have them.

If you want to tinker you need to get an experimental like a Vans RV. Unfortunately the only four seater is the RV10 and is super expensive used. Other four seaters include the STOL Zenith 801.

Since you're going to go to Embry Riddle, I'd suggest adding an A&P to your training along with your pilot certs.

It's a nice looking plane.  Just make sure you have a well respected Mooney shop perform a pre-purchase inspection.

This may sound silly but the cheapest speed mod out there is a good wash. Get yourself some Wash Wax All and a creeper and wipe that belly down real good. You'll add around 2-18 knots.
