dfgreene61 Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 Took my 1st trip of '15 Tuesday. Flew down to the Phoenix area from 36U to deliver 62G to Master Aircraft to get a strip and paint. Now I feel like an expectant father waiting for the big day. This was my 1st trip using GPSS between the Aspen and Garmin. The technology is quite amazing to say the least. It gives new life to my 30 year old AP. The photos include some shots of the Grand Canyon. I was at 10,500 to they're not the best. Flying 152KTS on 8.5GPH, nice. It feels like cheating. Quote
flyboy0681 Posted January 9, 2015 Report Posted January 9, 2015 My second trip of the year could have turned out to be my last trip. After departing Tallahassee for home, I settled in after reaching cruise altitude and moved the seat back a notch or two when all of a sudden the engine sputtered for several seconds and the airframe shook. I immediately got on the horn and turned back towards the airport while climbing in case I needed altitude to make it back, at which time the problem remedied itself. After an uneventful landing I taxied to the maintenance shop. After several hours of inspection and run-ups, they couldn't find anything wrong and reported that the powerplant was in great shape. We all concluded that it was probably water in the tank. I'm going to head for the hangar tomorrow and download the data from the JPI and see what it shows. When all of this was happening I glanced at it and it was going absolutely bonkers, displaying numbers and symbols I've never seen before. They are listed in Aviation Consumer as a top shop and painted one of the AOPA give aways. Here is a photo of my new panel. I added the Aspen, GTN-750, EA-100, GDL-88 and a new backup AI with battery backup. The GTN-750, Aspen and Century 31 all work well together. I took off from 36C (Heber City UT) after inputing my flight plan including two LAT/LNG user waypoints for crossing the grand canyon. After flying through Provo Canyon I turned on the AP and hit the GPSS button. TWinter Posted January 11, 2015 Report Posted January 11, 2015 Finally my first 2015 short trip along the Mississippi River toward Sikeston for some T/Gs. Our first real good day to fly in TN since the 1st. Not as pretty as some of you coastal guys..but for us landlocked it will do for a short trip. My Mooney sure does like cool weather..great ground speeds today Now, forecasts are more rain, sleet and low ceilings for the next three days starting tonight. She is scheduled to go under the knife for a GDL-88 and cowl enclosure install the following week, probably be beautiful that week. Oh well at least I'll have the GDL to look forward to. Quote

The data is in and it appears that cylinder #2 dropped for 46 seconds, so the water theory is out the window. Thinking now is a clogged fuel nozzle that cleared itself out. For the 40 odd seconds that this was going on, it was displaying symbols such as a plus sign (+) and numbers and was flashing. In hindsight it was probably showing a warning. Quote
