Jeff H. Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 I do not know anything about this group and have no experience with them - found them as a contracted US Marshals selling agent for forfeited property. Interesting listings for a Liquid Rocket and a nice looking M20E -- http://irggroup.com/cars-for-sale/1998-mooney-m20l/ Jeff Quote
bonal Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Couple of nice looking E's never seen that site but I know there are lots of govt auctions. Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Huh - says $189 for the liquid rocket then it says place bid. Is it to the highest bidder or the highest bidder over $189k? $189k is probably higher than market value. Or can I bid a dollar and take it home? Quote
carusoam Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Other listings were showing minimum bids. Like the Falcon Jet...$89k I think... No keys or logs. Are you feeling lucky...? Quote

FlyWalt Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Where do you see no keys or logbooks? Quote
RobertGary1 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Where do you see no keys or logbooks? Its assumed in auctions. If they somehow had the logs they would list it in big bold letters because its uncommon. Most drug dealers who have the feds take their assets don't turn logs over to the Marshall's office. Logbooks are a condition of your bid. Its a checkbox. -Robert Quote
RobertGary1 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Here is one that says it has logs. A nice V tail http://irggroup.com/cars-for-sale/1961-beech-bonanza-n35/ -Robert Quote
RobertGary1 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Ah, misunderstanding. The Mooneys are not gov't auctions. This site does both gov't and private auctions. The Mooneys are probably just normal sales, maybe estate. This guy may sell is Cessna 410 more easily if he got his arm out of the picture. http://irggroup.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/IMAG0134.jpg Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 The cheesy TV show "airplane repo" features a guy from IRG... they repossess boats and planes and other expensive toys for banks and I expect that is what happened with these planes. They're way, way high on that Rocket, but you can always bid low! It looks like a nice plane, and it is likely the fastest Mooney out there. Too bad it is a mostly orphaned engine, so keeping it going might be challenging. RAM in Waco does support those engines since they also did conversions with it in case anyone is tempted. 1 Quote
Seth Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 The SF260 has the paint job from Air Combat USA and is number 207. 208 is on the webpage for Air Combat USA. I'm curious if this was one of their birds or if it's one that used to be theirs that they sold off. I know that they rebuild them every x hours, and maybe after so many, they sell them and get a new one (or lose one to a bank). They currently have 7 aircraft. -Seth Quote
Seth Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 An Aerostar, a 414, and a 421B all available here. Hmm. -Seth Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 An Aerostar, a 414, and a 421B all available here. Hmm. -Seth Don't do it Seth...it will cost ya more in the end than just buying a plane the old fashioned way. (The old fashioned way - spend lots of time looking for the right airplane in good shape - then have it prebuy - then negotiate but be willing to pay real dollars for a real airplane). (If you want an aerostar - just call up our friends at Weber - they will set you up - and when they tell you they are selling you a quality airplane, you can trust them that they know the airplane and its issues). So how do this auctions work? If I bid $1 on the liquid rocket - and no one else does- do I get it? That liquid rocket claims 350hp. That must be one very fast airplane. 1 Quote

RobertGary1 Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 Ever watch Plane Repo on TV? these are the guys... I still don't understand how you can jump in a repo plane and fly it away with no logs. No knowledge if its in annual, current AD's, middle of maintenance, etc. How could you ever be PIC? Anyone who is getting their plane repo'd probably hasn't been spending money on keeping up maintenance. -Robert 1 Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 16, 2014 Report Posted December 16, 2014 The show is 100% staged FWIW. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk Quote

Their pilots are probably the unemployable ones who have "issues" on their licenses already and live for the adventure. Quote
Htwjr Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 What are the big holes near the tail on the liquid rocket? Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 What are the big holes near the tail on the liquid rocket? Thats the rocket exhaust ports. Really - its a liquid cooled engine. Quote
Marauder Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I'm curious about what kind of yokes are in the plane. Never seen one like that on a Mooney. Quote
aviatoreb Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I'm curious about what kind of yokes are in the plane. Never seen one like that on a Mooney. Are those the normal M20L yokes - the ones that came with the flopped project Porche Mooney? Quote
Marauder Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Are those the normal M20L yokes - the ones that came with the flopped project Porche Mooney? Don't know. Sure look strange though. Quote
KSMooniac Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 Yes, those are PFM yokes...kinda space-age looking and unique to the M20L, and retained in the conversions. The PFM also had a single power lever...fortunately this conversion went back to 3 controls. The hole in the tail is for the radiator cooling exhaust, I believe. Quote
triple8s Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I thought those holes were for the optional JATO's 1 Quote
jrwilson Posted December 17, 2014 Report Posted December 17, 2014 I bid really low (10k) on the M20L because it's a repo etc, and for grins. He emailed back and basically said they get at minimum 90% of asking price, usually more than asking price. I said "well good luck to you." 1 Quote
