  1. Which CHT probe do I need for a 67C? Does anybody know what resistance the probe should read at different temperatures? Thanks
  2. I have a 67C and the steering on landing is getting worse. With the plane on jacks the nose wheel does not seem to have any play front to back or side to side. There is play left to right in the steering. I have read Maxwell’s 8 second article so yesterday we leveled the plane to check following Mooney’s instructions. The front axle centerline was 7/8” forward of the plumb bob line. I don’t understand how it could be that far off or how adding a shim to the rubber discs could help move the axle to the rear. It appears to me that as the front discs compress the wheel moves up and to the rear. How does adding a spacer move it to the rear?

  4. I had an uncle that was pretty wealthy tell me do not finance things that depreciate. I have tried to follow his advice and it has served me well. I am not sure an airplane depreciates though if maintained properly. I had another uncle that was a pilot tell me when I was young and used to fly with him some " Son if it floats, flies or frigs...rent it." I am 0/3 following his advice. I can relate to your position as my daughter is in her third year of ob-gyn residency. I will echo the prior advice to live below your means. It is much better to actually have money than to act like it. I am sure you will be fine. If you are smart and hard working enough to make it through med school and residency I am sure you can handle airplane finance. I would recommend to find a plane that someone else has already upgraded with most of the stuff you want.

  6. I have always enjoyed trying to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Sometimes it works out and sometimes not. I bought a ‘67 C with about 350 hrs since factory reman engine but more than 20 years prior. I was concerned about the engine also but I have had the plane 7 years and put another 250 hours on it without any metal showing up in the oil filter. As others have said I would get it checked close for corrosion but I would fly it until the engine started making metal. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  8. As for the bad experience with motion sickness, get her some trans-derm scopalomine. I go offshore fishing and I cant make myself get sick using it.
  9. I replaced my old green crazed side windows a couple of years ago myself and used 3/16 solar grey on the front and dark tint for the rear. Not only does it look more modern but is noticibly cooler in the summer heat.
  10. Congrats on the new C which I believe is the best value in general aviation. It cannot be beat for speed, efficiency, simplicity, useful load and price.
  11. It is not just the running ones that are dangerous. My mechanic was standing in front of a plane facing forward talking with someone and rested his arm on the prop when it started. He was not injured but talk about a close call.
  12. I used Maxwell's method to find the leaks on my C but rather than just patch them I stripped the leaking areas before resealing them. That has been about two years ago flying from a grass strip with no problems. I would probably fix them again if necessary but I don't think I would want to try a complete strip and reseal. I would probably take it to one of the professionals for that.

  14. When I was a teenager my dad borrowed a still and got a recipe from and old guy that used to be in the business. We made some moonshine in our farm shop as an experiment to see if we could get it to run an engine. My dad tasted it and said it was awful. He gave some to an old fellow that used to help on the farm and he said it was just right. He said if it was any better you wouldn't have give it to me and if it was any worser I couldn't drink it.
  15. This was our last two dogs Prissy and Bailey. We had Prissy for 19 years and Bailey for 11. Bailey enjoyed driving the boat but never cared for flying the plane. Probably because he couldn't feel the wind in his face. They both rode in the plane a fair amount and were never a problem.
  16. I patched my C with my a&p's supervision a couple of years ago using Maxwell's method. I also took the time to strip the old sealant from anywhere close to where the leaks were before applying the new sealant as I did not want to just put good sealant on top of bad. I have been flying for two years from a grass strip with no leaks since. When my tanks do need a total strip and reseal I will take it to one of the professionals as the patch job was enough work for me. Its hard to beat a man at his own game.
  17. Just got him today. My daughter nemed him Mooney which seems to fit. He is an Australian Sheppard and is supposed to be smart, quick, hopefully efficient and he has a different tail.
  18. I have a C model that I keep at 58J which is only about an hour car ride or 20 min plane ride from Columbia. I would be glad to show it to you and probably take you for a ride. I have had it about 6 years now and the first Mooney I flew in I owned. I did a lot of research and in my opinion the C model is the best bang for the buck. I love simplicity and efficiency and the C model is inexpensive to purchase and maintain, relatively fast 140-145 kts, burning about 9gph, has a good useful load 1000lbs, and can fly over 4 hrs with reserves. I have had 4 people and some baggage in my plane a few times for 1.5 hr or less flights. I have had 3 people and a lot of baggage for a 4 hr flight. You can cover a lot of ground in 4 hrs in a Mooney. PM me if you would like to come check it out and really get hooked.
  19. I would recommend that he try to find someone to patch it first. I patched mine using Maxwells method two years ago and it is still leak free flying from a grass strip. I did remove the old sealant from the leaking area prior to patching. You should be able to find somebody that could patch it at least.
  20. My landing gear motor gets inspected daily and I can tell if there are any issues with it before I get to the airport. Its my right arm.
  21. What's a towbar? The hanger that I lucked into has remote control fold up doors on both sides so you can taxi in and out.
  22. Looks way cool. Did the rear blade antenna get knocked off in the shoot?
