Hello All! My name is Matt and wanted to introduce myself and our new Mooney. 1978 M20J-LM We just completed a pre-buy that went very well and will be taking delivery next week. We are pretty excited as we will be coming from an Archer. She has been upgraded pretty significantly and also in the past 12 month has had new paint and interior as well as the new engine and prop.

Careful, you'll have the dentist swallowing some fillings!

Welcome aboard, Matt. Enjoy your new ride, and think about joining MAPA (www.mooneypilots.com) and attending a weekend Pilot Proficiency Program somewhere scenic to learn the ins and outs of your Mooney. She's a beauty!

Welcome and nice Mooney. I saw that plane listed for sale at Aircraft Ownership Solutions in Kokomo, IN a few weeks ago. That was a quick sale.  Looks like a nice plane and well packaged. Looked like most of the goodies were installed recently earlier in the year. Had the gear up in April, but logs looked like a good solid repair and very complete history and maintenance. Enjoy and welcome to Mooney Space.

For a better answer with help, what is your flying background and experience?

Speed control on landings seems to be the bigger issue in a lot of cases. Mooneys are not difficult, just slick, and need good speed control. 10 kts extra in the flare uses 1,000 more feet.

Big deal is bounce or galloping on landing. On the third bounce you'll more than likely get the prop. Don't be afraid to push the knobs forward and go around after a  bounce. They usually happen more often if you are fast on landing.

It's really a good idea to get Mooney specific training with someone who knows how to do it.

Welcome

Welcome Duckguy.....a very sweet ride you have there.

You'll geat lots of fine advice on MS, and an occassional head scratcher. Not to worry, you will figure it out quickly.

If will help you get better input, and assist people here, if you put your model, model year, home base and maybe tail # in your info block on the left.

Welcome aboard.

Welcome aboard, and nice plane! I envy you panel, VERY nice. Congrats also on finding this forum. You will find the folks here very helpful and willing to share their knowledge and opinions. There is a wealth of information and the search function will be your friend. If you can't find the information you need via the search function, then post a question and you will soon have folks come to the rescue. I make it a habit to look here often to see what is new and any recent post that are of interest. You pick up a lot info that can come in handy later and improve general knowledge of the aircraft and its systems. More importantly, go fly your new toy and enjoy it!! I will second the recommendation to get Mooney specific trainer by a Mooney instructor. He will get you up to speed quickly and show you the Mooney do's and Don'ts.

Wow! Great looking plane. Take Cliffy's advice on landings. I too transitioned from an Archer. They are very forgiving birds that hide a lot of mistakes; those same mistakes have consequences in a Mooney. 70 knots crossing the numbers and watch for the bounce. I've had it happen twice, both times i was low on fuel so the plane was light and I was coming in a little hot. Luckily they ended fine but sure scared me.

Thanks for the compliments guys and advice guys. I did a lot of due diligence given its semi recent gear up. Spoke with the shops that did the repairs and had extra attention paid to it at the inspection. It fortunately was an easy one that did not hit a wing or the flaps so it really was a pretty simple fix and came away with a new engine and prop and a lessened asking price for an aircraft that has such a rich panel etc.
