N1026F Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 I had a leak repaired and it's doing fine, but now I have blue streak stains. Does anybody have a method to remove the stains? Quote
orionflt Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 i use purple power then rinse well, believe it or not you can also use fresh fuel then wash it down once the stain is removed Brian 1 Quote
N201MKTurbo Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 Use avgas, that is what it was dissolved in. If that doesn't get it all then use MEK. Just wet a paper towel with it and lightly rub. If it starts taking paint off then stop. Quote
Immelman Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 avgas works simple green extreme (aluminum safe) works...no lead exposure that way. that would be my preferred method! acetone should work, but will start cutting the paint quickly Quote
pinerunner Posted July 22, 2014 Report Posted July 22, 2014 If you're worried about lead exposure probably auto gas would dissolve it and probably (notice I make no promise) not hurt the paint job. There are quite a few slightly more polar organic solvents (like chloroform) that would attack the paint quickly so watch out what you try. You could get some blue nitrile gloves from Walmart to protect you from getting lead on your skin; that would probably be easiest. Would be good to have around for when you're messing with oil etc. I've used a little avgas (from when I check the tank) on a paper towel and it took the the blue stain off easy. Quote
Releew Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 3M rubbing compound works well or any type of wax with a cleaner in it. Quote
Mooneymite Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 If the blue is thick and gooky, use avgas to get the bulk of it off, then a mild auto paint restorer/wax will take the rest off. Quote
N1026F Posted July 23, 2014 Author Report Posted July 23, 2014 Thanks to all!!! I'll start with the one least likely to lead to liver cancer, then progress until it's Matterhorn White! Quote
Bob_Belville Posted July 23, 2014 Report Posted July 23, 2014 Mineral spirits works for a lot of grime, would probably dissolve stain. Quote
