If you are aware of a job for pilots....

This comes from the WingX people - Hilton Software....

We're Hiring!

We're looking for excellent mobile developers. Be aware, we have very high standards. We prefer engineers who are pilots, but that is not required. iOS knowledge is a plus, but mobile experience is essential. In addition to iPhone, iPad, and Android development, we have some amazing things in our labs.

Each time me and the wife go south, we always come to the conclusion that we are fed up with the Canadian winters and wish we could move where the sun shines more often than not shine. Our trip to visit our son who is in California 1 1/2 month ago really nailed the last one in the coffin ... we have committed to do it within the next two years...

Where do we want to go?

First choice: Arizona

Second choice: Southern California

If you guys see any similar jobs in one of these two areas, howler at me! My specialty: Software Test Automation Development

Sorry for the spam!

Sorry Don but the wife had this criteria: No tornado risk...

I know that Texas has a vibrant software industry. I went to Austin while I was on IBM Rational staff and this lab was very impressing.

Yves--

Take a look at New Mexico.

Bendix-King and Eclipse are in Albuquerque. There are any numbers of software companies here that support the defense industry.

Yves,

Check out the tornado situation. There are some spots in Texas that don't have a tornado history. I think Austin and the adjoining "hill country" (home of the Mooney airplane), might not be susceptible.

I know I won't change her mind about the perceived tornado risk, but I have lived here 70+ years and haven't had anything even approaching a near miss, much less a hit. Now, hot weather and hailstorms are something else.

Two years in the Dallas area was enjoyable! Weather prediction and storm tracking has been developed and delivered,

in color, to your pocket device since I lived there...

There's always going to be a local challenge...

TX gets hot in the Summer 30 days above 100dF. Plan B = AC

The left coast gets tremors.

The East Coast gets hurricanes.

New England gets lots of snow.

Chicago is pretty nice... It's Mooney accessible when dodging hurricanes on the east coast.

Take your pick...

You could look into southern Nevada.  Boulder City airport is suppose to be a hot bed for drone R&D.  Lots of federal money is going to be pumped into the Nevada economy for this purpose.

Don't forget that Honda is building jets in Greensboro, NC. Toasty and warm in the summer, occasional light snow in winter. For the Canadian audience, that means there will be a fraction of an inch of snow during the occasional winter, not that there will be any snowfall occasionally during each winter.

Surely they need experienced software testers, especially if they transition into longer airframes to carry more passengers.

Your wife needs to review the long list of natural and unnatural disasters that plague southern CA. She will find it almost as impressive as the cost of living there ;)

Some fine suggestions above. Good luck.

Our son lives near L.A. This is one of the reasons we picked Arizona first (close enough but not too close). 2 1/2 hours flight and we are there. About 6 hours driving for him... except if he gets his pilot license one day. Housing prices is also a factor.

I did mentioned Nevada to my wife. She declined... worries about me spending it all in the casinos!

We have casinos in NJ!

You can lose your tax money without leaving the house, online...

This probably isn't a good selling point for NJ...

Do you have any interest in living in an airport community?

Best regards,

Since we've gone to on-line gambling... We won't be paying taxes???

Unfortunately, only computers in NJ are allowed to gamble here.

You won't be able to pay my taxes the way you would want to.

I'm sensing this isn't going to last in the current format.

Picture a hotel mini-fridge in every house stocked with liquor...

ANY state have less taxes than Quebec. In my tax bracket, income taxes are between 40% and 50%. After you gave half of your income, when you go buy a bag of chips, there is a 15% tax added on top of this.

There is not only the weather we can complain about over here.

No casino's in boulder city NV.  It's a beautiful area.  Overlooks lake mead.  The town is very clean and utilities are cheap compared to surrounding area's.  No state income tax.  It might be worth a look.

Ah, the proverbial PST, GST. But at least you can get a real Cuban cigar. :)

Then you're prepared for Southern CA.

I just bought a house in Victoria, BC (BC=Bring Cash). I think it is Canada's version of California, but without the heat.

I'd love to move to Texas. I could buy 4 houses there for the price of my one house in Victoria. Those Chinese main-landers are jacking up the prices...Must have too much money.

Any artificial lift jobs around Austin? :)
