I think you have that backwards. The law you are referring to would require the FAA to follow the rule making process before they could require sleep apnea screening.http://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/House-Passes-Sleep-Apnea-Rulemaking-Bill221432-1.html

One of the many MDs at the Mooney Summit said he had to overnight twice at a motel to have the study competed. He didn't think he had sleep apnea, and was in very good shape. Turns out he has it, now sleeps with the apparatus attached and gets a very good nights rest. Jim, after sleeping with you for so many years, your beautiful wife deserves the full blown test. ;) PS: Amelia did great on her BFR.

My wife's doctor just tested her for sleep apnea. It literally involved hooking a little box about the size of a Walkman up to her finger while she slept (in our home) for at least four hours. We had to return the box the next day. How expensive could that be? I haven't gotten the bill yet! :)

Jim

Jim, those tests are accurate and don't cost much, however they are not allowed for the FAA version because there is no way for the feds to know if you or someone else wore the equipment.

If the FAA gets their way and they most probably will, the House bill will slow them down considerably, you will be required to overnight in controlled condition$ at a ho$pital.

The really good part is, thi$ new required te$t I$ for pilot$ with no hi$tory or $ymptom$ of the di$ea$e being te$ted for, backed up by neither $tati$tic$ nor correlation between the te$ted di$ea$e and pilot'$ performance. They're the government, they are allowed to make us spend our money without reason, cause or justification, and who cares if there is a scientific rationale behind it or not.

By the way, how much medical testing is required to obtain and keep a CDL to drive 80,000 lb trucks down the highways, passing schools, homes and businesses, to say nothing of the other cars driven by soccer moms hauling their kids around? There's no overnight, in-hospital testing for sleep apnea or anything else, that's what.

My wife and daughter went to Des Moines today to see a comedy show. Semi rear-ended another semi who in turn hit a Honda Pilot who hit my wife and daughter. Just sheet metal...Wrong place at the wrong time. She left clearance so did not hit car in front of her. They were stopped because of an accident a mile up the road.

Never...Ever...EVER say "It has been a long time since anything bad has happened"...regarding cars/family. Fate WILL soon pay you a visit.

You didn't say that recently did you!

Well we are all glad that everyone is fine.

How expensive? Let's put it this way, I recently went to a urologist and had to "void" into a special jug which measures the flow (how quickly the bladder empties). How does $400 strike you for taking an ordinary, 20 second pee?

Sorry for being so graphic.

Being charged like that would piss me off... Sorry couldn't resist.

Some of these tests are unbelievably expensive and it makes you wonder why...

Good to hear they are safe. My wife was hit by a car a few years ago. I was with her and it was the most anguish and guilt I ever felt because I didn't protect her.

Probably after all the beer you drank at the celebration party. Flyboy is finally an instrument rated pilot & congrats on that achievement which I'm sure put you back more than $400 ;)

I guess I hadn't mentioned to you that I had a case of gout not too long ago. Beer is now a thing of the past.

But thanks for the well wishes.

An aching big toe and a volumetric voiding issue....not a pretty picture ;)

Be careful with  your new button, and have fun with it.
