chrisk Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 I went to San Marcos today to take advantage of the $1 100LL. I wish I could have made it yesterday for the vintage Mooney group, but it wasn't in the cards. Anyway, the tower guy were working really hard with all the traffic and things got a little confused on the ground. It was fun to see all the planes coming in. If you have not been, you should go. They have nice facilities there. Quote
jax88 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 They were definitely working hard. The whole process seemed to go really well. I was in and out in less than an hour, including the survey time and the 5 aircraft wait to take off. Quote
mooniac58 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Wow, I would have flown the Malibu out there for $1 AVGAS had I known. I was actually just looking for anyplace to fly today to built time in type - that would have made it nearly a freebie! Was that just a 1 day thing? Quote
jetdriven Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 All month Craig, fire up that Malibu and fly to San Marcos. Its going to be expensive to fill that sled up. 200$ Quote
mooniac58 Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 Wow, how in the hell do they pull that off? Not that I am complaining! The Malibu only holds 120gals bone dry - so much less than $200 I will head over on Thursday perhaps! Quote
fantom Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Hey Craig....have you sold that beautiful J yet? Quote
aviatoreb Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 What is the deal? How are they managing a price leader of $1 fuel like this? Quote
carusoam Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 I'm interested if anyone wants to sell $1 avgas. I'll go all the way to Florida to participate. Flying all the way to TX, using Carson's speed is too extreme or even radical for me. Best regards, -a- 1 Quote
chrisk Posted October 9, 2013 Author Report Posted October 9, 2013 All month Craig, fire up that Malibu and fly to San Marcos. Its going to be expensive to fill that sled up. 200$ It now ends on the 15th. http://redbirdskyport.com/ Quote
Seth Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 According the article they usually sell 4000 gallons permonth. By the 15th they are expecting to hit 90,000 in 15 days if the pace stays up. It's a 6.5 hour flight for me - hmmmmmmmmmm -Seth Quote
aviatoreb Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 But what's the angle? How are they selling so much fuel as a price leader? What's in it for them? Quote
201er Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Thats lame that they're ending it early but luckily im going through there again tomorrow for a top off Quote
Seth Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Thats lame that they're ending it early but luckily im going through there again tomorrow for a top off 40 hours in a week? 20 round trip for you and doing it twice?!?!? Good for you Mike. -Seth Quote
Seth Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 But what's the angle? How are they selling so much fuel as a price leader? What's in it for them? They wanted to see if fuel price was the reason GA is getting smaller and people are flying less. So they got sponsors galore to help cover the cost of fuel. They have each person filling up fill out a survey as well. It's a neat campaign. They sold even more then expected, thus they are cutting the program in half. -Seth Quote
201er Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Seth, you should go for it before they shut off the pump. You've got a hungry bird and its a lot of fun. I've been hanging in Phoenix and Vegas and will be taking a fuel stop in San Marcos heading back. Quote

carusoam Posted October 10, 2013 Report Posted October 10, 2013 Tell the supporters.... The North East is different than TX. What they learn from the $1 fuel in TX will not directly equate to the N.E... Please run a similar test in the NJ area to make sure the results comply. I'm only concerned about their statistics, not getting 101gallons of $1 fuel... Am I right, Erik? If fuel price were lower, I would fly more often and further.... We would have fly-ins spread accross the nation, with turn outs larger than ever. Best regards, -a- Quote

TX is too far for my October schedule to go get $1 fuel in October. 1 Quote
yvesg Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 Same for me. I will fly to wherever I can get on one tank of fuel to get $1 a gallon. Yves Quote
JohnL Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 I've been by two evenings last week to fuel. It's a blast to hang out with all the other pilots waiting. I talked with a M20C owner from Houston while waiting Thursday night. I saw the same pilot from AUS (Bergstrom) two nights in a row. He is going over 3 times a day with flight school aircraft from AUS. The line guys are also very cordial in spite of being worked to death! One guy insisted they come back and top my aux tanks after not waiting for them to settle. How could I argue with his insistence to take on more $1 avgas? It feels like a mini Oshkosh! Too bad about ending early, but they are taking it in the shorts. They said they are filling about 150-200 A/C a day! Quote
Seth Posted October 14, 2013 Report Posted October 14, 2013 Tomorrow is the last day. I'm curious how many Mooney's on this board have filled up? -Seth Quote
