I had no spare key. Airplane is grandfather-in-law's airplane in another part of the state. Local mechanic had an entire key ring full of airplane keys. Needless to say one fit and I made 4 copies at the local wal-mart!

Seriously, cut out the 'roids - you don't know your own strength

The MSC I use also has a "can" of orphaned keys and whenever they need to go after a lock or someone comes in and realizes they left their keys, they pull out the can and you can bet almost every time, they've found a working key in there.

I thought there were only about four different Cessna keys; no idea how many Mooney variants there are.

Really, if someone wants to steal something from your plane, do you want a sturdy, unpickable lock on a flimsy door with a plastic window? Then the theif would cause more damage getting in . . .
